I would if I could. They called me last week and I spoke with a guy named Richard. The rest of the communication has been through text message and I am not sure it is one person answering. I feel like it is a group. I am taking everything said with a grain of salt. Either way, I might still order the FS but that feeling changes by the hour with me. Such a cool looking truck but so many disappointing details and worries about being the first group to be the Guinea pig.
I hear you, my decision has been changing every moment too, but finally after $7500 revival, 4680 range concern, and this thread, I am leaning toward to standard CT. I got to keep trying:)

Can you provide us the number to text?

For courtesy, you can ask their permission to provide it to those who requested, moi. And you can private message me here.

Thanks again,

Here is my two cents. My text messages come from the delivery site or store I will use to pick up my FSCT. Every time I get a Tesla text, it is the same #. It is not always the same person, but the same # from the same store.

IF you can downgrade your FSCT to a standard model, you are most likely going to go back to the que based on your original reservation number. Like mentioned above, if you don't want a FSCT, don't order one. Wait until the factory is making standard models and delivering them to reservations.

I don't particularly want a FSCT, but I think Tesla will make FSCT until they can make more FSCT than they have buyers for. If 50,000 people will pay for the FSCT, Tesla will make 50,000 FSCT ASAP. Once the factory capacity exceeds FSCT sales, they will start making standard CT and filling the undelivered reservations. (I think I just said the same thing twice.) I did not want to wait until the standard models are available and is why I ordered a FSCT.

I believe you are being a little silly if you think you can "fake" a FSCT, switch to a standard CT, and move up to the front of the line to get your standard CT. At this point, the front of the line for a standard CT is likely 2025 or later. Why wouldn't they work through their list of 2 million reservations to sell FSCT? If 1% of the 2 million reservations spend an extra $20k, Tesla gets an extra $400 million. Yes, Tesla is printing money...

Was ready to try this but this seems pretty hit or miss. Don't want the FS and don't want to be stuck with the option of taking it or moving to the back of the "line."

After downgrading, how do you add FSD at the original $7000 price you originally selected in the reservation? How do you add options? The non-FS will have different wheels, so what if you want to change that? It all sounds very suspect because you don’t need to “configure” an FSCT, but you do need to configure the non-FS and there is no configurator yet. I can’t believe they will deliver that VIN they assigned, because they won’t be building special non-FS for quite some time.

Neither the IRS nor Tesla websites list the CT (even the sub $80k variant) as eligible for the tax credit (or point of sale).
The tax credit only applies to deliveries, and you can't get a delivery window for that truck yet. So no credit.

At what point can you still downgrade? How does it work? I just saw the option to "start designing" and literally froze in my seat.?‍???
If you have not ordered and you do NOT want a Foundation Series truck, you have the option of doing nothing and that will maintain your place in line.

The issue is IF YOU ORDER. If you don't order, chill, your next time will come.

I got the invite yesterday and ordered AWD, I saw this thread (posted earlier), I talked to Tesla and they said I cannot downgrade to a non-FS. Only thing I do is delay the FS. I wanted verification and got put on hold and she said she talked to management and that was correct.

You will receive another invite to order. No one has seen that yet. But it will probably be like a standard vehicle order, you choose your vehicle, which of the few options that you want and the place the order.
Be careful, depending in the vehicle, adding FSD may knock you out of Tax Credit. If so, you can order FSD AFTER you get the truck.

Yeah, but what's the bet this is how they weasel out of the 7k FSD price lock. You can't take FSD on delivery to qualify for the tax credit, and you can't take FSD after while keeping the 7k price.

This is good advise. I would not order a FS unless it is what you intend to buy.

The purpose of this thread was to let those that did order a FS and have 2nd thoughts about their decision, that they may be able to change their order.

There are several of us that have had conversations with Tesla and have been told we can. I have actually requested and have been notified it has been done yet I have not seen the purchase doc's updated to reflect this yet. I hope so today and will keep everyone updated.

As of now this is ALL speculation and there are others that have been told they cannot do this, so my advise is to wait this out to see if my doc's do change and I would not advise anyone to place an order for a FS if they do not intend to buy one. Too much risk.

On the other hand my hope is that I do get to see this switch to non FS take place and this could help some others that find themselves in a situation that calls for them to need to drop the FS order without losing money or position. We will see.

FSD will not knock you out of the Tax Credit. It is not physically attached to the vehicle.

That's what I am doing. This thread is four pages of discussion because some were able to successfully "downgrade" purporting to give people a chance to be the first to lock in a non-FS order. And it looks hit or miss which is why I am not trying it myself.

If you order AWD now and the FSD, you're out 7500+ other discounts depending on state of purchase. If you defer FSD to after purchase, you will pay current market price for FSD at $12000. ?
