Hi folks, a few days ago we took delivery of our Cybertruck! (San Francisco Bay Area)

For us, here's what stood out so far -
  • It feels amazing, as seen on the youtube videos, the steer-by-wire makes u-turns and handling very easy - it's hard to explain it until you try it.
  • Traffic aware cruise control (TACC) works great, press once the right scrolling wheel to activate it; it took a few miles for the cameras to calibrate; that's normal, similar to what we did on our Model 3. We also see on the display that stops signs, red lights, and pedestrians are recognized. With TACC on, it slows down and stops at red lights and stop signs.
  • The instant acceleration when merging onto 101 or 280 is awesome, we're driving a truck but it feels like a sports car; no wonder the beast Cybertruck beat a Porsche 911 while towing a Porsche 911! See it here.
We have zero regrets about buying "Rover 1" - we already hauled a couple of loads of debris and we're looking forward to driving it around California, many US states, and to parts of Baja!

Updated with timing dates: ordering, VIN, delivery -
  • Order Placed Date
    • Dec 7 23
  • Got a VIN Date
    • Jan 11 24
    • Was refreshing the app a few times per day before that :ROFLMAO:
  • Delivery Date
    • Jan 22 24

Dumb question, can you open the back doors through the screen? I'm concerned that the teachers won't know how to open the door at the kindergarten car pool lane and I'm not supposed to get out.
I intend to do uber and lyft and this has crossed my mind. I'm thinking I will create some stickers to stick to the outside of the windows that say "Push Here" with an <--- pointing to the button.

I see many features on the screen and the mobile app, such as opening and closing the front trunk (“frunk”), opening and closing the tonneau, etc. - but I don’t see the feature you’re requesting.

Someone posted the Cybertruck owner’s manual in this video

And you can jump to specific sections using this guide: https://www.teslarati.com/tesla-cybertruck-owners-manual-revealed/amp/

Personally, for our Model 3, we ensure the window is open and say “press the handle and pull”, typically we only need to say it once. With the Cybertruck we’ll now say “Press the button and pull”. :)

Congrats!

Interesting....+34 miles/hour charge rate on L2 240v/48a input, versus +40-44 miles/hour charge rate for Model 3/Y.

Good to hear a first-hand owner report on TACC and how well it works...Thanks!
Charge rates slow as you near the charging capacity. Screen says OP is 1:15 away from 80%.

Elon had a good analogy for EV charging on the JRE podcast. It’s like filling up a parking lot. The first vehicles find a spot quickly, as the spots fill up, it takes time to circle the lot and find an open space.

[...] We need to get more data/miles and go on different highway/city routes, but so far I’m seeing around 400 Wh/mile for Rover 1, our Cybertruck, while around 300 Wh/mile for Simba, our model 3. [...]
After driving Rover 1 and using 123 kWh, we were able to drive exactly 300 miles, at an average energy usage of 410 Wh/mi - not bad!

Notes -
  • This was a mix of highway and city driving.
  • Over 50% of the driving was highway driving.
  • The last trip was all highway driving with over 150 miles driven at 70 to 74 MPH.
  • Hauled a couple of heavy debris loads.
  • The Cybertruck battery size is 123 kWh.
  • We charged Rover 1 between drives until we saw we used up 123 kWh total.
Just like for all ICE and electric vehicles, the range of course varies based on many parameters, I'm just giving one example on some of our latest data

Yes - for DC fast charging.
No - not for L2/AC charging. Well, above high-90%, AC charging will slow as the battery pack "rebalances" the BMS for accurate capactiy estimates.

My 2018 Model 3 would charge up to 98-99% before tapering down from 42-44 miles/hour charging speed.

It's basically the same for DCFC or L1/L2 AC Charging... Its just that the maximum of L2 @80Amps is ~19kW, and most L2 only do ~48Amps which is 11.5kW. If you kept plugged in during a DCFC, it would not taper down to these 20kW~11kW levels until it hit a similar 98%ish SoC.

This charge curve didn't appear to get much past 90% SoC and was still pulling over 50kW roughly:
https://www.cybertruckownersclub.co...truck-charging-curve-recorded-by-owner.10995/

Using miles/hour isn't a good measurement because it depends on the vehicles efficiently, so you can not really use it to compare an M3 with a CT. For example, an Aptera on Level2 @48A at 11kW would be getting 110miles/hour of charge, but with a CT that would be about 22miles/hour.

This graph goes all the way to 100%, and matches what you said about it not ramping until about 98%: https://evkx.net/models/tesla/cybertruck/cybertruck_cyberbeast/chargingcurve/

So, DCFC and L1/L2 are the same charge curve, its just that L2 normal power levels are much much smaller than DCFC when you would normally unplug around 80% still doing about 10x what Level2 is capable of.

Sorry to be pedantic about this stuff... The charge curve is CC/CV (Constant Current/Constant Voltage) similar to PbA. It's just that L2 isn't powerful enough to ever actually hit the CC Phase, there isn't enough (battery) Current to push the Voltage to the limit until around 98% SoC, after this the current tapers off while the voltage is held constant. While a DCFC can push so much Current that the CC phase only lasts a few minutes until it starts to taper down from maximum of the station.

Except that an Aptera on-board charger can only accept 6.6 kW, or about 30 miles/hour gained.

I think miles/hour is the most relevant metric to use when comparing charging speeds because it's generally the metric a user really cares about.
