Does anyone know whether or not there are sensors on the tailgate or frunk to ensure they don’t accidentally open in garage. Obvious garage door is in the way of tailgate and I have overhead cabinets that I park under that the frunk would hit if opened. Thx

Really just need a way to keep from accidentally opening while at home via app or other way. Anyone who parks in the garage would want this as you can open the tailgate on the main screen of the app.

I would love this feature also.. seems like a ‘no-brainer’.. especially on my ‘old’ 2021 ModelY with park sensors..

would love this ‘detection’ to not allow the liftgate to open when too close to an object..

Who knows, could happen. The tailgate proximity to an object based on rear cam is technically pretty simple.

We know from videos that there are no proximity sensors on the frunk or tailgate at the present time. but as mentioned the cameras could do a good job and just need a software engineer to write a solution and push it out in an OTA update. Is it a priority? Is it even on the Tesla Cybertruck software team's list of things to do? I don't know.

If it worries you, you could always put some rubber bump strips where there may be impact.

For the rear gate, I don't think that it "opens" just unlocks and cracks open an inch or so. The frunk will open, but if like other Tesla's, you can set the open height.

I’ve owned three Teslas since 2018 and have parked all of them in the garage. I have never had any of them accidentally open in the garage or anywhere else. When in the app if you click to open the frunk on my MY, they ask for a “are you sure” confirmation before allowing you to open it. I would imagine the CT having the same but I don’t have my truck yet so can’t confirm.

Thanks for the reply’s. Already bought some garage pads. Tomorrow I will test whether or not there is a confirmation of whether you really want to open either. I bet it does.

I’m more worried about being attached to a trailer and accidentally opening the tail gate on top of the trailer tongue/hitch.

Nope, but good thing it's made out of HFS and won't get scratched when this happens!! Maybe attach a thin pad to the garage door and underside of cabinets if still concerned.
This^^

Not to protect the Cybertruck's frunk and tailgate, to protect your cabinets and garage door. The frunk will auto-stop if it encounters resistance. The tailgate has a very light action so it's unlikely to be a problem.

Why? What do you think would happen?

I suppose it might be bad if you drove with the tailgate down while towing, depending upon the specific trailer, but one would have to be pretty negligent to tow in such a manner.

Something like this? Someone (kid) playing with the screen inside might open the tailgate and damage the tailgate?

Maybe the Tesla software engineers can utilize the camera to prevent such accidents since there are no proximity sensors installed on the truck.

That's not a real concern with the Cybertruck.

The Cybertruck's tailgate is well-balanced with an internal counter-balancing spring and drops very softly. Combined with the ultra-hard steel body panels, there would be no damage whatsover in that kind of situation.

Painted mild steel of traditional trucks is very damage prone relative to the Cybertruck.
