I've had the Cybertruck for one week now, and here are the unexpected things I've encountered so far...
REACTIONS
Almost every in-person reaction is very positive. Especially surprised to see the "real truck people" in south Texas absolutely LOVE the Cybertruck! I figured these would be the folks who sneer and eschew the vehicle because it's electric and looks different... but, nope, they love it! They also often comment that the price is right in-line with what they pay for their traditional trucks.
The attention from the general public is CRAZY!! I've had people walk diagonal across an intersection in heavy traffic to ask me about Cybertruck while stopped at a red light!
The most surprising question I get (actually more than once) was, "Did you build this yourself?". ?
MANY people don't know what it is, and have never heard of Cybertruck. They start to understand when I tell them Tesla makes it. Still, they ask where it was made (even though we are only a few hours from Austin where the Gigafactory is!).
Highlights for me just how little awareness there is of Cybertruck, and to some extent Tesla, in the general public.
DRIVING
This is the BEST-driving vehicle I've experienced, period.
Silent, smooth, easy to drive and park. Steer-by-wire is off-the-hook (and makes my Model 3 Performance seem antiquated!), and the visibility, maneuverability, and ride quality are exceptional. Silent and stupid quick when you want to be, Cybertruck encourages a luxury cruising vibe that is relaxing, yet commanding of the road. This will be the new gold standard ride that other trucks will need to catch-up to!
The range is also excellent. I averaged 408 Wh/mile over 750 miles of mixed driving. Unless you're driving like a maniac, or very high speeds on the highway, you'll easily achieve these numbers as well. I haven't towed anything yet, but when I do it will probably be a self-powered electric RV so I'm not worried about too much range loss -- just need more pull-thru charging stations!
I've taken it to the beach by Starbase and SpaceX a couple of times, and it is exceptionally easy to drive on the sand with a dedicated off road mode for it. I've come across pickups and Jeeps that were stuck in the deep sand, and I was able to drive right through without an issue. (They were already being towed out, so don't criticize me for sailing right past them!).
MAINTENANCE
The cleaning and care of the stainless isn't bad at all. Touchless carwashes do a decent job (and rinse the salt water from the undercarriage) and a little Windex for the fingerprints once in a while, and it looks fine. For those fretting over difficulty in cleaning, it's not an issue. If you are OCD about fingerprints, keep a little spritzer of Windex and microfiber towel handy. Done.
1-Week Summary
My favorite Tesla to drive (and I've driven them all), by FAR!! Solid build, excellent engineering, and tons of smile-inducing technology baked-in. This is only going to get better over time with software updates that bring Autopilot and FSD, along with other truck-specific features that will be super-cool. I am hoping for a Performance Boost option for the AWD, which I would gladly pay for, to get a little better launch time. Even tho I rarely have the urge to launch, it would be fun to have the juice on tap!
