I was able to pick up my Cybertruck yesterday and when I got it home under the motion light in my driveway, I noticed one portion of the panel reflected the light differently. When I looked close it appears like some sort of sander was taken to the panel.

Thoughts?

Weird, looks like a sander hopped around/vibrated while sanding…. so it didn’t stay flat as it sanded/rotated.

or almost as if they skipped a higher grit sandpaper and those are low grit sandpaper marks? Doesn’t look too coarse tho… I’d definitely try the Barkeepers Friend and might do the trick!

That's the great thing about the Cybertruck, you can give it any look you want. If you don't like it, just apply a different treatment. But I did that, I would be embarrassed!

I have Barkeepers Friend. Should I make a service appointment? Do you think Tesla would fix it?

Not that I’m experienced with this at all, since I don’t have my truck yet ?, but a lot of people have had success with BKF. Have you tried this to see if it remedies the swirl marks/uneven pattern? Others have said it’s a good fix for the rail dust (“rust spots”)

That sucks, I'm total OCD, I'm waiting for a VIN, if I saw mine like that I'd probably make them fix it before I took delivery. Or at least they should do whatever it takes to make it like the lower panels. Hopefully BKF will remedy it.

The guy from Out of Speck Detailing said in his first video with the Cybertruck that he was told by a SC staff who works in preparing them for delivery that they have to sand the entire truck with a couple different grits. I’m sure what you see is part of their process so you should be able to go back and have them touch it up to your satisfaction.

I will try Barkeepers Friend + Windex tomorrow and see if it works.
Barkeeper's is not abrasive is it? Not enough to remove scratches like that. Contact Tesla and see what they say. The one I went to see and declined, had scratches and they said they could not fix it in a way you would not see it. From what I've heard you would have to work over the whole truck to make it all match.

It's not great you don't have the issue on a due bill. It seems many are delivered with scratches and folks just want it now and or, are going to wrap it anyway.

I do wonder now what happens in the future when folks buy a used one that is wrapped. I`d just assume that there are a bunch of scratches and scuffs under the wrap.

Totally unacceptable imo, they have made an amateur attempt at refinishing that section of the panel. I would recommend that you not attempt to do anything yourself and instead have the service dept. remedy it.

you have 100 miles to report any issues with scratches or things like this sanded part. Use your app to start a service request.

Well, with that lighting, it's hard to know how permanent the scratches are, so yes, try washing them with barkeeper's friend, but definitely report it to Tesla.

If someone tried to cover up their oopsie, Tesla needs to know.

The truck has 98 miles on it. I submitted a service ticket.
Honestly if I were you I'd keep the service ticket open for as long you can before actually taking it in. I barely trust any dealerships/service departments, let alone on a Cybertruck with stainless panels that they've probably never even worked on.

I'd let them get their processes sorted out before letting them anywhere near my truck. If you do take it in, I'd push for a new panel if it doesn't come out looking right. That finish is unacceptable on any vehicle.
