I've been seeing so many controversial videos and comments about the Cybertruck. After having this for about 2 weeks, im starting to understand the quirks about this vehicle and can align with several of the video's concerns around

  1. Price
  2. Range below 300mi to the charge - but I knew this.
  3. Limited Visibility and A pillar visibility
  4. Difficultly driving in the rain using the rear camera and the singular windshield wiper
  5. parking issues with overall length and lack of park assist
  6. Bad corners on the frunk
  7. A new money suck with the $15k battery upgrade and $6k vehicle wrap for fingerprinting
  8. interior lacking for a $100k vehicle purchase

I am curious on the Model X owners. What issues do you have with that vehicle???

I think back in 2019 I was a different guy and not 6 years later im starting to realize that perhaps I am a Model X guy and no longer a cybertruck guy. I've been having some concerns about the truck but am trying to understand if the X is the better way to go. I was totally sold on the price and range back in 2019 and now that its 6 years later, both have me slightly compromised.

What concerns are with the X and does anyone else share my sentiments on the truck.

If the X had a little bed I could put things in I would likely be looking at an X

Question have you tried using the app to price an X and put your Cybertruck in, wondering what kind of trade-in value Tesla will give for a Cybertruck.

I've been driving a Model X since 2016 so my experience will be different than the newest versions.

I'm 6' and realized that I can't see the front of the Model X and also have A-pillar visibility issues on some larger sweeping left hand turns. It's mostly a non-issue since my 2016 has ultrasonic sensors for parking and hood visibility, but newer versions have them removed in lieu of camera visualizations. I've seen some review videos on the camera based object detection, which looks pretty promising, so maybe it's not a concern for either the Model X or Cybertruck (future implementation?).

I love my Model X and will really miss it when I get my Cybertruck. I think that if the Cybertruck didn't have rear steering, I would be more hesitant to get it, but I'm anticipating about the same urban maneuverability, with some adjustments to size and tire pathing. For my daily driving, I think it will require a bit more forethought for parking, but I'm surrounded by large trucks that have no issue navigating spaces.

I have a family of 5 with three young kids and the falcon wing doors are the best thing for kids in car seats. Also, being able to control all the doors is great for offloading for the school bus. We're pretty packed in when we take weekend trips, and utilize every cubic inch of storage. I have a 7-seater with monopod seats in the second row, which allows for some additional space underneath, but my second row center seat has a high headrest (fixed in later versions) which blocks rearview mirror visibility.

Back when I got it, there weren't a lot of Teslas in my state, which didn't even have a service center. It attracted a good amount of attention and you get a sixth sense to when people are looking at you. I enjoy talking to people and telling them about the positive and negative aspects of driving a BEV and attended a few Electric Drive events to offer rides. The Falcon wing doors still turn some heads when they open, but the Model X still isn't very common in my state.

I don't believe they ever fixed the front halfshaft premature wear issue. I've had mine replaced three times before getting the suggestion from the service center to always keep the car in low suspension mode. As I understand it, low suspension decreases the angle between the front drive motor and wheels, reducing wear on the bearing surfaces of the halfshafts. As such, the Model X roof sits at just about the same height as the Model Y, which is a little disappointing. It also makes the ride a little stiffer, which I don't mind, but should be considered.

The newest Model X's are stalkless but at least you have the option for a round handwheel. I would not want to use the yoke without steer by wire. Vented seats in mine are probably similar to those in the Cybertruck. Noticeable but not butt puckeringly cold like a Ford King Ranch.

I'm trading in my Model X for the Cybertruck because I need more storage space. Even with the third row folded down 5 carry-ons and a cooler with all the additional kids entertainment stuff is pushing the storage capacity of the trunk, under-trunk, and frunk. Also, I think I've hit a critical level for delivery fees for plywood, lumber, mulch, gravel, and sand. I have the tow package, but my HOA is a PITA when it comes to outdoor storage of trailers.

I've always thought of the Model X as a great people mover but it seems like the Model S has more hauling capacity. Maybe it's different if you get a 5 seater with the fold down second row, but the monopod 7 seater I have has always been limited in that respect. Great daily driver and a capable road tripper. If you don't need the utility of a truck, then the Model X and S would be a good choice.

  1. Price

Pickups have high costs, removing the prepaid FSD and home charing, $80K is reasonable

  2. Range below 300mi to the charge - but I knew this.

Edmunds just proved out 318 miles

  3. Limited Visibility and A pillar visibility

    comes with the design

  4. Difficultly driving in the rain using the rear camera and the singular windshield wiper

this is def a design miss as the rear camera is the rear mirror when the cover is closed, hopefully the after market will address

  5. parking issues with overall length and lack of park assist

its a PU, comes with the territory

  6. Bad corners on the frunk

think the new ones have little bumper covers for the sharp corners or the aftermarket will provide

  7. A new money suck with the $15k battery upgrade and $6k vehicle wrap for fingerprinting

we all are spending $5K on PPF, whats the difference, you actually dont have to if you clean alot
Batt UG gets you to the extremes, Riv is planning the same

  8. interior lacking for a $100k vehicle purchase

remember, its not about the interior, its about the entire BEV, screen, FSD, apps, the Tesla ecosystem, at this price Ford does not have that

you will have a feeding frenzy on your hands when you go to sell
enjoy making $$$, do it soon bef Tesla ramps up

Did you just counterpoint all of the reasons the cybertruck does not work for HIM?

He is not telling other people not to buy it, just listing the reasons why the truck does not work for him and asking about a model X.

Great response. this is very helpful. Even now as i type this response im in the CT writing, I've noticed the headrest in the center front seats is really nice for a laptop. I too am 6'6 towering so was curious if it was compromising seat space like the Model Y I had.
Im so compelled to stay with the truck and now what you're saying really helps reinforce the decision to keep the truck.
I am married without kids but surf, dive, kite, etc. and thought this would be the perfect ride for my lifestyle, but wasnt sure if the above are the issues with having a truck and perhaps it is.
I do remember lugging dive gear in the model Y was always scary that youd mess up the back area or the car would smell.
Your response inspires me to keep the truck and use it for its creation to throw stuff in the back like sandy beach chairs, surf boards and the ilk. keep the ppl inside and the crap outside.

Thank you for your response.

Would you overlook these “issues” at the normal price..? (Non-Foundarion-Series)

no vehicle is perfect…
im not sure the cost bothers me too much, I sold TSLA shares to buy the truck and sold tesla in november to cover the offset, so due to TSLA's progress on the stock I feel like im not overpaying.

Fellow FL boy AND DIVER, the bed of the CT for wet and sandy dive gear (and fish) is a big reason I am looking at it over an X. The ability to have semi dirty storage space is a big plus.

I do not think you are alone. I think we see A LOT of people take delivery of the CT who previously have only driven very conventional looking sedans or mid size SUVS and are shocked by the vehicle. From the radical design elements, to people just suddenly having a large pickup truck with giant all terrain wheels/tires. Humans just often have eyes that are bigger than stomachs. :D

wisdom young patowan... thanks, these points are helpful and compel me to keep the truck, realizing I made the right decision.
FORD never. im not a sith lol

that said,
I have noticed a Tesla Community on the road since I got this that is incredible. I had JEEPS all my life and the JEEP community and just the head nods or waves when you pass a JEEP on the road was cool. I didnt realize I missed that so much until people started doing that with the CT.

I have to disagree. I drove in heavy rain for 3 hours from LA through grapevine highway high elevation the wiper did very good, I used side mirrors and rear camera i don't remember i had issues with rear visibility.

not having a washer on the rear camera is probably the biggest miss, oh and maybe the Goodyears and wear with the wheel covers, hearing they are moving to Pirelli
