I'll throw my mental gymnastics in here.

For me, I know that I locked in FSD at $7k, I know that I dont need a white upgrade nor all terrain tires. I know that the wall charger with powershare, while nice, isnt that much better then just getting a generator plug to use the outlet on. Especially because I wouldnt be getting the beast and would have to pay for installation. I know 90% of the accessories that come with FS will be available by random companies like hansshow or unplugged, so I could save getting them there. (if i even wanted to get them). The only real stand out value of FS to me is getting it early. And dont get me wrong i REALLY want to get it early. but in my situation, not only would I be paying 20k extra to get less range and a bunch of overpriced extras that I likely wouldnt have bought otherwise. I would also be losing the $7500 federal and the $5000 CO credits. Those things alone would offset the FSD package if I did end up having to pay the full 12k (which I really hope doesnt happen... stick to my 7k tesla)

So at the end of the day, I am really paying $32500 + extra sales taxes more the 20k And more monthly accrued interest on my loan.

If I was in a YOLO place in my life, honestly, I would probably still do it. But I'm not. Got two kiddos that are pre-school age. That level of financial commitment just to get my toy early feels irresponsible. So ofc i did the only reasonable thing and sold my almost paid of MYP and get an old MX that cost more :ROFLMAO: .

It should satisfy my truck feening for now.

What was the question?Oh yea, I think, if you have the $$ to blow and are in a place where you can YOLO, then you should seriously consider doing it. But if getting this truck might impact your way of living negatively at all. Join us on the FS skipper threadlol

I understand the resale value point but it really doesn’t matter unless you’d need to sell it for whatever reason or that was the point of the initial purchase. I’ll use it primarily as a daily driver but also need to tow my boat.

While waiting for CT and before they started to be released, I had to buy a truck thinking that if I was lucky, I’d get the opportunity to buy one in the fall of this year. I had an older model Suburban I’d been dumping money into limping it along hoping to put a “Free” sign on when I brought my CT home.

Well they began releasing them in November and I got the order invite in December. I now have to sell the “hold me over” truck that has depreciated in value about 50%. That’s a hit I really didn’t want to take and the reason I was dumping money into the Suburban but this what it is.

I don’t have any plans on selling the CT anytime soon and will eventually trade it in on a newer model at some point. I’m sure depreciation will matter then, but I would have gotten more enjoyment out of it than the money I’d lose.
This is my exact scenario. Dumping money into an 06 Silverado 265k miles and this will be my daily driver and long-term truck to tow my boat and jet ski until I trade it in for a newer model.

At twice the original price, I have to question how bad I still want it. Should I wait until the Foundation Series are exhausted and see what a “normal” CT would be? It would certainly be an easier decision if I could sell it should I decide it is not worth it to me. Thoughts?
Like me, you're retired. You have to decide if spending this much is going to cramp your finances and/or lifestyle. Will it be a good investment financially? Who knows. Right now it looks like the non foundation dual motor will be ~$72,500 after federal incentive. Timeline? Who knows. Future price? Who knows, but the price curve on other Tesla models has been a downward trend as production ramps and becomes more efficient. I also received an invite (actually have 3 pre-orders, spaced out over time). If it was anywhere near the original estimated price I'd buy them all and give them to my kids as I received the next truck. Leave them something better than money is the idea. As of now, personally I'm waiting to see what happens to the pricing when the fervor dies down.

1129?? Oh boy, you got me excited. I am 1130 here. Getting closer. I too would much rather have the non-FS AWD Cybertruck, but would probably (not definitely) pull the trigger and get the FS if offered. I know I am definitely not getting any younger. However, I do not desire most of the accessories on the foundation series and would rather pay the $7K FSD price that I had locked in. Plus getting the initial build bugs worked out is another good reason to wait...

Decisions... Decisions...

Thanks for your post @Gurule92 , I am now leaning on being part of the skipping crew and waiting when my turn approaches (RN 1130*). I have a lot of similarities and way of thinking that you stated in your post.

I think this is the crucial thing. If your income allows you to claim tax credit it might be worth waiting.

I’m now leaning towards ordering because I don’t think I can get the tax credit.

But I do have the complication of a planned summer move …

Well, I did the deed, I ordered the CT, I think anyway. Ill know more when a Tesla rep contacts me to assist with some order snags. They didn’t hesitate to take my deposit though, so I guess Im in.

I wish folks getting order emails would show the first 5 digits of their RN, not just the first 4. I’m seeing 1129’s getting to order but how many CT RNs are between 1129xxxxx and 1130xxxxx? I’m 11279xxxx. And some are saying they are posting the last four digits. I’m so confused….

You should probbally decide if it's worth it or not BEFORE you buy it, pretty much the case with any purchase, let alone such a large one.

I am in the same "should I or shouldn't I?" boat as you OP.

Got my invite on 01/18/2024 (RN1128473xx, Dual Motor w/FSD).

[Interestingly (at least to me, haha!!) was my earlier RN (RN1127486xx, Tri Motor w/FSD) is still in the "we'll let you know" stage]

I still haven't pulled the trigger (pushed the button?). I keep vacillating between "Get it now, life is uncertain" and "But $20K for a bunch of stuff you wouldn't buy is crazy, just wait a bit" :)

ETA: Looks like you opted in, OP!! Congrats and here's hoping you get it sooner rather than later!!
