Yikes. That is disappointing. I can leave it off where I park but I like the comfort of having it on while I am on trips. Especially will all the hate and attention CT gets. I saw one already got vandalized.
I'm still in the process of documenting it. Doing a 100% to near 0% test real world daily driving, not one long drive like others have been doing. I'll try again with sentry mode off next time. You can follow my experience on youtube.

My AWD Cybertruck uses nearly 10% a day with sentry mode on. That's insane! Nearly 10kwh a day! I'm making YouTube videos of my experience. This is a very unexpected additional cost of ownership!
Mine is just about as bad. Clearly it’s a common issue based on forum reports, so hopefully a fix is coming asap. Taking it on a road trip next weekend and the drain adds a layer of suck to the trip.

And sentry should turn off at about 20%.

That is really bad. However it is quite complicated mode as it involves infotainment unit while car is parked (that might be main factor of high power usage) and also needs to keep parts of car that are processing different data awake (at least camera images, maybe some other sensors), so it might not be that easy to get lower power usage without big SW changes. I'll be observing if Tesla manages to solve that though.

Did you end up making a video of the drain with sentry mode and no sentry mode yet?

Would be interested in knowing, especially for offgrid situations where in the winter every kwh counts.

Really? You feel the Sentry Mode is a requirement when off-grid? Just turn it off, I've never had mine on.

If you are parked in a public area, the Cybertruck will get more attention than any other vehicle on the road today. If you are actively using Sentry Mode, all that attention will increase consumption, but the attention will naturally decline with time and consumption of Sentry Mode will also decline as Tesla refines the software to be more power efficient. If you park in relatively secure areas at home, work or airports, you can include them in the list of locations that Sentry Mode will remain off.

The Cybertruck is relatively secure and hard to damage, break into, relative to all other cars on the road, so I'm not sure Sentry Mode is needed much. Sure, nothing is completely vandal proof but those other vehicles don't have Sentry Mode anyway.

Use it where appropriate and turn it off when not needed.

It’s not just sentry mode. I charged to 80% overnight. Was probably done around 5am. I’m now at 75% and haven’t driven anywhere today. I park in my driveway and there have been zero sentry incidents. I always left sentry on in my Y, and it is egregiously worse than my Y was. Definitely something going on beyond sentry mode.

Disable all data sharing and it'll help a bit.

Maybe you misread. I wasn't asking about options. I was asking about battery drain on Sentry. So, yeah, this one is for Cybertruck owners that have real info. Thanks though.
I have the Cybertruck and I can confirm the sentry mode drains the battery like crazy, hope they will fix that in the next update

Is Sentry turned on at all? Even if it is set to not be on at home, there's some indication fleetwide that it's not completely turned off.

this is fixed in the next update
I really hate to sound combative like this, but..

How do you know it is in the next update?

There are so many scenarios around Tesla updates that even the most informed will generally say "a future update"

  • A specific vehicle is not guaranteed to get a specific update
  • An announced feature often takes over 6 months to make it to a vehicle
  • Tesla seems to be running at least three branches of code right now and it is common that one branch is updated, but the others aren't (eventually the branches merge)

someone in the 2024.8.4 thread said it’s fixed… good if true but no guarantee it’s actually fixed.

But as I said, there's nothing guaranteeing that any specific vehicle is going to get a specific release. Now I will admit, it's highly probable that all of the current Cybertrucks may get it, but there's already possibilities of why they might not, like Beast vs AWD.

My basic point is that for those that may not be familiar with Tesla's release process, just like the lottery that it felt like you were in when you got the vehicle, releases are yet another lottery.

Some releases roll out to the fleet over a short period (~1 week) but others can spread out over to ( a month) and specific features can take much longer times (>6 months)

And it's VERY possible that two vehicles with adjacent VINS to be on different releases and get updates on different timelines.

It's indeed the update lottery that takes some time to get used to.
