So the original "estimated" delivery window for the earliest waves of Foundation Series orders will be coming to a close here in a couple of hours and as a first time Tesla buyer, I'm curious what to expect next. Do we just continue to wait in perpetuity until Tesla finally decides to fulfill our order and hope for the best or has Tesla historically (on non-CT orders anyway) provided some sort of updated guidance?

While I know that the original delivery window was always quoted as an "estimate", I have to say that this is actually the first time in this whole process (since making my reservation during the unveiling in 2019) that I've felt genuinely disappointed. I finally thought the countdown was on but here we are, over 100 days since I placed my FSAWD order and at the end of the estimated delivery window with no finish line in sight.

Sadly we wait… I’m in the same boat, my Order was placed on 12/8 for the CyberBeast and my initial confirmation said early as end of 2023 to end of March… I don’t expect delivery for a few more months unfortunately… Still waiting on the VIN.

Colorado also. Still waiting. I have had 4 other Teslas, every one of them showed up early. Cybertruck appears to be in a different delivery methodology.

With some of the critical errors, wheel covers that had to be recalled, tonneau won't move, etc. it makes sense things are a little behind. Tesla is smart enough to make fixes while producing and not releasing a flood of vehicles that will bring bad press. I'd look at the positive and say a few weeks/months of extra wait will give you a much better product than if you got it sooner. It's past the point of being the first person to get one, so since that sheen has worn off, I'd rather the biggest issues be sorted and get mine in late 2024.

While I don’t disagree with the benefits of waiting (and with all due respect), that’s not why a lot of us chose to move forward with a Foundation Series order. As someone with a very early RN, the main appeal for the FS was the expedited delivery and light at the end of a very long tunnel. If I’m going to have to wait well into or towards the end of FS production then I might as well have just been one of the first to buy at the lower price point with all of the “biggest issues” worked out.

I think that's a fair point. Maybe the worst place to be in line would be the last FS order, before the switch is flipped to normal non-FS orders. It's one thing if someone is a later reservation number and jumped the line going FS, there's still benefit there. But if someone was a day one reservation holder and gets their FS at the back of the line right before non-FS go out, I certainly understand that disappointment.

I agree, that would absolutely be the worst place to be as far as deliveries go for anyone with an early RN/Order. Ultimately, I also assumed that the final Foundation Series trucks would be sold to RNs well into or at the end of the queue so the transition to non-FS orders wouldn't be so jarring given that they would be at the back of the line otherwise. If however, they do begin the transition before some of us earlier RNs/FS Orders have taken delivery then I would absolutely be giving them a call to convert the order to a non-FS as my main justification for the FS was more immediate delivery.

I’m not so sure about the Non-FS vehicles being cheaper. I think that when you add up the cost of all the upgrades. FSD, bigger wheels and tires, premium interior, charging equipment etc. I think a fully optioned truck is going to be pricier than the FS trucks. ( FS buyers got 25k worth of upgrades for 20k and get earlier delivery). I may be wrong about this but that is the sense I get with the way it has been positioned.

Man that is brutal. Sorry to hear of your 100+ day wait. I wish Tesla did a better job of this. I am 50+ days and its not fun checking the app every day, making sure my finances are ready to go if things happen quickly, etc. I wholeheartedly agree that the point of throwing down for Foundation Series is early delivery. They should not make the offer if they are not ready to deliver in my opinion. Or they should give you the offer of foundation series within a certain delivery window guaranteed, or a standard Cybertruck past a certain date with a delivery estimate that is not firm. Let people jump the line with their wallets if they are willing, but don’t make the people that are willing to hand over an extra $20k wait without guidance.

Tesla Cybertruck Missed Delivery Window - What’s Next? IMG_1858

I’m just one of many in VA who are waiting for their VINs and were given Jan-March delivery estimate. Not a single VIN was assigned in VA till this day, except for one guy who used his influence and ‘reward points’ and took an early delivery in the state where reward program is outlawed just like Ohio.

To say that I’m very disappointed is an understatement. After watching countless people in CA/TX/FL received VINs and took deliveries despite the fact that their RNs and order dates are miles behind mines and yours, I basically gave up on checking and refreshing. It’s depressing to say the least.

Don’t expect an updated delivery window from Tesla for Cybertrucks. It would be too kind.

and don’t expect they will start non-FS this year either.

My friend you bought a Tesla, it will be ready when it is ready. That could be a week or 6 months from now. Ask the Roadster folks.
you meant people who paid $250K cash for the FOUNDERS SERIES 2nd Gen roadster in 2017? ?

Well generally if you can drop 250K for essentially a weekender car. You won’t miss it while you wait. Lolol

I definitely agree you do get quite a bit of value for the extra $20K than simply "earlier delivery" but ultimately it just comes down to one's personal preferences in their final configuration. Absent the desire to get the earliest possible delivery (my current vehicle is hanging on by a thread and I'm over waiting for this thing), I would have only gone for the upgraded wheels and tires, the chargers, and the all weather floor mats. Again, it's all a matter of preference though at the end of the day.

Honestly, I would just like some communication and better insight into timelines so I can temper my own expectations appropriately and better plan accordingly. This, perpetual "any day now" approach has cost me nearly $2k in HYSA Interest because I wanted to have the funds ready at a moments notice.

I feel ya, and you've got me beat by a couple days (12/21 here). I'm trying to stay optimistic but it's difficult now that we are past the delivery window with no updates to go on from here. I'm still holding out hope that it gets here in the next month or so because I've been nursing my current car along for more years than I originally intended waiting for this thing and I'm not super stoked on going into another summer without AC lol . . .

For my 22model s, I ordered in 2021 and had to wait 9 months for delivery.... So this is just another silly waiting game ?

It is annoying they require another $1000 down (+$500 if you got range extender which who knows if/when that comes out). But is what it is... What's another $1000 out the door when everyone is dying to get one ?

Only bright side is interest rates should start dropping sometimes soon, hopefully ?
