Im hoping the range extender leverages the dead space....doesnt use bed space, adds 40-50kw, not an additional 100+kw...so good balance between usable range and not outweighing the Hummer / Chevy Avalanche EV

Eye roll indeed, since your claims are kinda empty.

You wanna pay 2x as much for 2x range, sure, maybe then Tesla should make them. Until then, though...

The average price per kwh for a battery pack in an EV is under $130 per kwh. The pack cost of increasing the battery from 123 to 185 (50%) is 62 x $130 = $8,000. Batteries just are not that expensive anymore.

My $ through stock investment is on Elon making good on his 500+ range promise.

Batteries just are not that expensive anymore.
Yea, some people have zero clue how cheap batteries have gotten recently, the price reduction is drastic and the doubling of the battery size will be cheaper than the bed consuming battery which will likely not be sold.

That's not what they're giving up, tho.

They're giving up the profit on a whole second vehicle.

Except in this case you can't see inside the jar and the larger jar is a problem.
Bigger battery and range coming.
True, here is a theory; sell the 2019 500 mile CT in 2024 with half the batteries and 2/3 the range for $120,000, then in 2026 put the batteries back in and sell the 500 miles range pack for $200,000, people would pay! LOL.

Doubtful. Again, there doesn't appear to be enough space for another row of 4680 cells. We suspect the void is for a different type of battery altogether (like LFP for the RWD CT).

Anyhow, they paid for tooling for a quarter million trucks a year. Until they're making a quarter million trucks, they won't be making their highest margin.

Hence the high prices.

But the suggestion what people wanted two trucks worth of batteries in their truck. Batteries are the true limitation, in the area beyond ramp. So if you want two trucks worth of batteries, you're going to want to offer two trucks worth of profit.

Sorry. but posts like this are just exasperating. Most of us here have been driving EVs for many years. I have #6 & 7 in the garage. We know with great precision how much range we need for where we drive with our type of loads in the sort of weather we experience on the routes we take. And, NO, 300 miles is not "plenty for us" even if you say so with your expert opinion because, after all, you have both a model 3 and a model Y in suburban Atlanta and if that is good enough for you it ought to be good enough for us.

I'm not on #7, but I am on #4.

Or a brilliant click-bait from Sandy, because he already knows what it's for. If it was empty room for batteries, Sandy would be the first to check, double check, and confirm with Tesla before saying so. He's not a YouTuber, he makes his money from the manufacturers.

Elon and Tesla has indicated that for all of their cars, they start out upside down. They start making money when they can optimize the production process and increase quantity. With an increase in quantity, they can get better prices from the parts manufacturers.
