For those who think it's better to pay $12K up front, please send me $12K and I'll pay your monthly subscription for the life of your car, regardless if the price increases.

$99 per month is on a par with early Cybertruck orderers who got a promise of FSD at $7000. Gigantic "Wow Factor" here.

People will wake up soon and realize their road has 5-10% self driving cars - and wonder how they got to that point.

Innovation happens slowly, step by step - and then all of a sudden.

Uhh... So, you get 50, but remove 49, then you get 49.75 and take out 50, so then you... get 49.5, 49.3, 49.1, 49... etc.

And a year later they raise the price to $199 and you run out in less than 5 years when the average truck is kept 12.5 years.

Last week.

There is darn near zero circumstance where you run out of $ in 5 years...even at $200/month. Where do you get your data on 12.5 years? https://www.iseecars.com/how-long-p...ir durability, pickup, work vehicles,” said Ly.

Because it’s like riding along with a student driver? Basic AP is good enough, for free.

I’ve used FSD a handful of times during the free trial and it’s just not worth $12k or $1200 a year. Just the fact that it wants you to keep your hand on the steering wheel at all times is a joke.

I am not concerned about money that I have already spent or what the value of my Tesla's ( 3, Y and FS) years from now. I am more concerned about the success of the company and hope that whatever marketing plan that they come up with works to foster the adoption of EVs around the world. As a stock holder, I want the company to succeed. As a person greatly concerned about climate warming and about the environment, I am hoping that Tesla will inspire the change that we so badly need. Hopefully, every one on the Cyber Truck Owners Club will help sell the whole EV concept. When I drive my FS I get lots of attention. It seems that everywhere I go people want to see it and learn about it. Right now, it is a great marketing tool. Tell people how great it is!

A $6K reservation FSD is looking pretty good, if you believe Elon, they're gonna jack up the subscription price- exponentially...

I don't think that's the case because Tesla can collect all the data they need by running FSD in shadow mode, even on cars whose owners have not purchased or rented FSD.
True, but that's taking samples, data, or references from real users. They still need to see where Ai got confused, slow to make a decision, got stuck, user disengagement, etc. These data could only be gathered while on FSD. They need both sets of data.

is that real? If you total the car, you actually lose full self drive that you paid a ton upfront for?
I can't 100% answer that correctly, but if it's added to your insurance (they are aware of all the added options) they should cover it, but the used market value is very low so insurance will probably pay very little. Speak with your insurance agent to check your policy.

As for Tesla, they won't transfers (outside of a promotion) so you need to purchase it again when you buy another car to replace your totaled car. Expect your insurance to always pay you less than a new Tesla (since your car is old) so you'll have to spend more money to buy FSD back.

The safest bet is not buy FSD up front.

It's worth it for advance autopilot if you don't already have it and do a lot of road trips. Easy to cancel it too when you don't need.

My opinion is this is for supervised FSD only. Full blown $12k fsd will be able to drive with nobody behind the wheel and will allow Robotaxi. The $99 month subscription will not allow Robotaxi.
This makes a lot of sense. I bet the FSD/Robo taxi function will be an uplift

I don't think "safest" means what you think it does.

If you don't buy FSD when it's relatively affordable, then how will you get it once it can actually drive itself? FSD is unlike a normal option you buy on a legacy car, like a heated steering wheel or upgraded stereo because it totally transforms the car into something else once FSD is autonomous.
