I gave mine a good tugging a few days ago. Seems solid.Give your pedal a good shakedown while not driving and see where you are at… if it doesn’t come off or move, I think you are good to wait until May
interesting note about your glove box. I had a horrible creaking noise coming from that area for one day and it went away. I asked them to look at it but of course the sound went away.Same here. I dropped my truck off yesterday to fix the suspension alert that was repeatedly popping up, and hopefully balance the tires which were off balance since day one, and maybe replace the glove box since it rattles/squeaks like a 1980's sun baked dashboard, lol. But I did ask yesterday if they knew about the pedal issue, and whether existing customers will be called in to have their pedals replaced, and as of yesterday, they were not sure. I'm guessing we'll be called back later as they'd have to have the part on hand today to do the recall repair which I doubt will be the case.
Correct, but this happens with MANY OEM's. Floor mats curl up and the accelerator pedal can get stuck, it just comes with building new vehicles. The fact that Tesla initiated the recall voluntarily versus NHTSA making them or Tesla being sued speaks volumes. Mistakes happen, I get it, but building anything is difficult (much less a building a 6000lb vehicle). I hear your point, but hey, like Forrest Gump says, "shit happens."They didn't catch it though, they released it with this defective design, that's the problem....
Did you read the recall? It is not a bad design, if was an altered process without engineering review. That is still a problem and will hopefully be addressed systemically rather than individually, but it isn't a "defective design."They didn't catch it though, they released it with this defective design, that's the problem....
Exactly. Someone had a cool idea to make the pedal install go faster and here we are now. Nothing malicious. Nothing overlooked.Did you read the recall? It is not a lot design, if was an altered process without engineering review. That is still a problem and will hopefully be addressed systemically rather than individually, but it isn't a "defective design."
Did you even read the official recall document? This is a supplier provided part - out of Canada. The supplier performed an unapproved change. Quit trolling Tesla.Voluntary recall for all CTs currently on the road… but the issue only happened for those who CTs were assembled using this unapproved step (most likely Texas manufacturing techs trying to make that part faster for end of quarter push and not considering the consequences).
The part came from Canada but was it assembled and installed in Texas? Not trying to troll Tesla either… legitimate assumption if indeed the problem originated during that part of the installation process.Did you even read the official recall document? This is a supplier provided part - out of Canada. The supplier performed an unapproved change. Quit trolling Tesla.
See post #33 above by @heemsSo is this a “do not drive” recall or a “drive with caution until issue can addressed by Tesla” recall?
First available appointment for recall fix is May 7.
The original design WAS a mechanically locking design (see photos of the bare, uncovered pedal with two molded-in protrusions on the face of the pedal). These are ramp shaped as the pedal cover is slid on, and vertical catches as the cover is fully installed.I think the rivet is better than the original "friction fit" design. Some mechanical locking mechanism seems like a good idea.
Then by all means… blame those Canadians! ?The original design WAS a mechanically locking design (see photos of the bare, uncovered pedal with two molded-in protrusions on the face of the pedal). These are ramp shaped as the pedal cover is slid on, and vertical catches as the cover is fully installed.
I think the problem was the covers were difficult to slide on, which caused the assembly teams to apply a lubricant. Either the lubricant caused the mechanical catches to become less effective or a small subset of assembles had covers that were not slid all the way on, not far enough for the mechanical locking mechanism to catch.
I've tried to pry my pedal cover off, but it feels permanently welded to the pedal itself. I don't think I could get it off without completely destroying it. That makes me suspect incomplete assembly as the culprit in the two cases we know of in which the cover was not securely attached.
In any case, it appears Tesla management is acting out of an abundance of caution by voluntarily recalling these, probably because they know they are already under attack and the watchful eye of the media and this administration.
You have exposed yourself as a troll.I just feel bad for the guy who hit the pole, he was ran out of this forum.
So, no, a stuck accelerator pedal could not have been the cause of the issue he described. Furthermore, it will be immediately apparent if this is the cause of any future issues because the pedal cover will no longer be seated, instead it will protrude a few inches above the actual pedal after any crash caused by such a condition." In addition, if the condition is present when the driver applies the brake pedal, the driver will receive an audible and visual alert that both brake and accelerator pedals are being pressed. Application of the brake pedal will cut drive torque, including when both brake and accelerator pedals are pressed."
As many as they can sell. How many units is/was the ‘limited edition’ FS supposed to be…?
I'll see if Tesla Mobile Service can replace my pedal in my driveway (or just wait until I'm at the Service Center for something else). Considering I can't pry my cover off, I'm not worried about it magically coming off on its own! I've used the mobile technicians for other minor recall items and it's great to not have to do anything but tell Tesla when your car will be at home (or at work) for the fix. The only reason I'll get it done is so my VIN shows up as having had any/all recalls performed.Hence, the reason I keep getting a delayed delivery on my truck that was supposed to be delivered three weeks ago; good luck getting those recalls done as soon as possible; the tesla service centers in Miami are horrible with scheduling service, and it may take weeks to get the car in, and they don't even give you a loaner.
