Hi, I got my cybertruck last year and I love it!

One question I have is if I need to wrap my truck. I live in NY area and winter is quite hash here with salt dust accumulating on the truck. Will the salt cause rust in the truck? do you think I need to wrap it to prevent rust?

I recommend to wrap it regardless. The experience is much better. Its easier to keep clean, no finger prints and bird dropping do not oxidize the metal.

I do not have experience with road salt, but I will say most wraps will not cover 100% of the metal and it will still come into contact with the elements.

Other stainless steels do well in salt, like 316 Stainless Steel. Time will tell how Tesla's formula does.

I was, but no longer, part of the need for wrapping the CyberTruck gang. Keeping the stainless looking good ? was my major concern while waiting for 5 years. As I have posted before, I now believe all the truck needs to keep the truck looking great is simply find a good full rotating brush car wash that sprays with GRAPHENE TYPE wax at the end. For $45/mo, I take my car through at least once a week and sometimes twice. The brushes do a great job of burnishing the stainless steel, similar to when you got it; Infact better because the finish is now uniform brushed finish from panel to panel, and adds a very uniform wax water beading finish. it does a great job of reducing fingerprints too.

My experience with hand wax grapheme waxes has not been good. It is extremely difficult to make a uniform looking finish, but the spray on wax from the car wash leaves a nice uniform finish on everything; stainless, glass, plastic To protect the finish.

I’ve drove mine in the snow a handful of times with no issue UNTIL NOW. I drove to a larger city and they put something nasty on there roads. It’s magnesium chloride and it will fuck your raw Stainless steel body. My body now has small bic pen head size dots on the metal and over my foundation series badging. It looks pitted but is completely smooth.
Can you post pics of these? Thanks

Could probably prevent (or greatly reduce) harsh chemicals from etching your stainless steel by ceramic coating it.

No. Maybe if you had it under constant salt spray for years without rinsing but who does that?
No evidence of CT panels rusting. There has been rusting of metal contaminates stuck on it. A few magnets attracted stuff that caused stubborn stains. Inside door panels can surface rust (not HFS and not where you would wrap anyway). But no rusting of the CT exterior HFS panels has ever been shown. People just like to freak out over nothing. Why hide the most beautiful feature of the truck and cover it with something that scratches so easily?

Even if it did rust, wrapping wouldn't stop it. On normal steel vehicles, rust typically starts on the inside of the panel where the paint is thin or nonexistent, and it festers unnoticed until it pops thru and bubbles the outside paint. Wrap would just hide it better, for a while.

The Cybertruck has a higher crevice corrosion resistance rating than marine grade 316 stainless steel. Tesla achieved this by boosting the chromium levels to form a more protective chromium oxide layer in the presence of oxygen. This has been confirmed by Cybertruck’s lead engineer at Tesla, Wes Morrill.

No, it does not require plastic wrap to avoid rusting. It's more corrosion resistant than the stainless used in Deloreans and they are holding up fabulously after more than 40 years. Rust is simply not a problem. The tiny orange specks that have been reported are caused by iron fallout, it's the same rust specks you can see on any light-colored car, if you examine it closely enough (except you don't have to worry about damaging a thin, fragile clearcoat if you decide to remove them).

Won't be wrapping mine. It's actually ridiculously easy to clean. After 17k+ miles and quickly coming up on almost a year of ownership, I can say with confidence that a wrap is completely unnecessary - simply a personal preference.

Fan of no wrap. I don’t find it hard to keep clean but I don’t have kids so maybe that is part of it? I don’t find fingerprints to be an issue.
The whole "oh, no, fingerprints!" thing was so overblown it's still trying to come back to reality. Some people were pushing this narrative like it was the end of the world.
