Luckily the collision didn’t cause a life or death circumstance (for him… little too late for the deer) necessitating a quick exit!

Doors do jam sometimes in accidents, and in any circumstance I’d find it concerning. Wonder if there’s an engineering opportunity there to reduce this possibility in vehicles in general.

I’m glad he’s ok and the truck is intact.

I had.a bit of deer experience that was a bit different. Driving around 40MPH and saw a flash out of the corner of my eye, then an explosion sound. Scared the crap out of me and wasn’t sure what happened, until I looked in my side view mirror and saw a deer doing somersaults in the road behind me! So, a deer

came flying out of an empty lot “full tilt” and slammed into the side of my CT. Bottom line is there was a smear all the way down the side of the truck, some black grease type substance (which I figured had to be the deer’s nose), but in the end no real damage. Cleaned it up after a couple days and there’s NO EVIDENCE AT ALL that it was hit, except for the wheel well cover that was dislodged. This would have taken out the side of a conventional vehicle for sure!! Tried to make the case to my insurance agent that they need to reduce collision, but to no avail. Here are some pics ….

Absolutely, especially when most cars get totaled after hitting a deer at 75 mph, CT’s door not opening is very concerning ?‍♂?
Cars? I thought we were comparing "trucks."

Not trying to pick a fight here. Just sharing a perspective.

I hit a real deer (i.e., 6-point Mule Deer) at 65 mph in my little 2000 Dodge Dakota while exploring Grand Teton and promptly turned myself into the Chief Ranger, who was merciful. Anyway, all doors opened just fine. Grill was cracked and I lost a fog light.

Did I mention I had steel pipe "caribou bumper" on the front? LOL. Nevertheless that was bent and one of the mounting brackets broken.

My point? Merely how this CT report proves that CTs are far from invulnerable to routine wildlife encounters and that I need to resume shopping around for a heavy duty bumper that will mount into the front dual tow receiver hitches of my CT.

I love that feature! Don't have weld or even bolt to the frame like a ding-dang caveman. Someday I'll probably want to swap out said bumper for a future snowplow attachment.

CyberTrucks are useful work trucks. I can't afford to wait a month to get mine into Tesla Service Center because of a dumb deer. Happy to lose some range with a big 'ol bumper that should avoid any amount of downtime.

Crazy, the one on the OP's X video has near identical damage to my Sierra EV. Curious as to what the wait time was to get parts to fix it. I hit the deer on the 12/9, and just now the parts are arriving so I can get it fixed. Does Tesla have an adequate parts inventory built up for repairs at this point?

What's really impressive about EV Truck's is their ability to keep going after a hit like that. As with OP, I didn't even pull over, and finished the hour long remaining trip home utilizing Super Cruise. I've been driving it like this since then because of a a lack of parts availability. I‘d think there’s an increased risk of being unable to proceed after a deer hit in a stock ICE truck due to the coolant lines, radiators, etc.

Next up: CT vs ELK.

I didn't catch from the video if CT was on FSD at the time of the collision. I've disengaged FSD in the past to avoid both deer and elk on the road, as I wasn't sure FSD would do the right thing... I don't believe it has the notion of animals, and basically treats them just like stationary obstacles unlike the pedestrians.

Had a friend hit a deer at 40 MPH in a Dodge Challenger and the car was totaled... It took out the front drivers side as well, jammed AND bent the door (looks like the CTs door is just jammed up by the fender) as well as breaking the windshield and drivers window, ripped off the mirror and the tire/wheel got bent as well... at HALF the speed!

My friend had to be 'extracted' by the fire department using the 'jaws of life' and he was pretty badly injured as well (steering column broke his ribs and pinned him for 30 minutes). But hey, they actually let him keep one of the antlers (broken off in accident)... All I got was a goose-egg on my forehead, a few small cuts from climbing out (jammed both doors) and a really bad headache for a couple of days... He was in the hospital for 3 days...

So I wouldn't worry too much if I had to get out a different door...
