There is a huge overlap between MX and CT customers. I won’t be surprised if Tesla stops MX after a few years. Why do you need MX when CT can do everything 100X better?
One thing that the Model X clearly does better than the Cybertruck is "sell outside of North America". Even if every Model X (and Model S) customer in the US and Canada switched to the Cybertruck, there would still be customers for the X/S in Europe, China, and other Asia-Pacific countries.

Maybe that could change if the CT goes global, but no sign of that happening as yet.

Yeah! Good point!

Not sure if that is good or bad
I'm not a professional news writer, obviously, but as I read the OP, as was impressed by how clearly and concisely it was written.

Clear is good; clear and concise is a challenge. As Pascal said, loosely translated from French, "I have made this letter longer than usual because I have not had time to make it shorter."

why people who don't/never own Tesla vehicles want to talk & speculate on Tesla's business strategy?

It comes with Free Supercharging, they did the same thing with the S a little while back, raised the price $5K and gave free supercharging.

You would have to keep it a long time to offset that.

I "speculate" that someone who doesn't own a Tesla vehicle, but does own a significant investment in Tesla stock, is more likely to talk and speculate on Tesla's business strategy than a person (like me) who owns a Tesla vehicle, but no Tesla stock.

From the American Heritage Dictionary:
speculate /spĕk′yə-lāt″/

intransitive verb

  1. To engage in a course of reasoning often based on inconclusive evidence; conjecture or theorize.
  2. To engage in the buying or selling of a commodity with an element of risk on the chance of profit.
  3. To assume to be true without conclusive evidence.

I know people who want 7 seater X for the family. The truck doesn’t do that.

Totally bizarre pricing "strategy" by Tesla with regard to the Model X.

Late in the day 8/31/2023 Tesla announced a price reduction to the Model X which made it qualify for the $7,500 federal (and $5k) Colorado tax credit. Plus colors were free....ah the Ultra Red Model X I wanted was suddenly "affordable"!

This caused me a lot of contemplation as I was scheduled 9/1/2023 to take delivery of my new (FSD transfer) Model Y. After much deliberation I decided owning two $80k vehicles was excessive so I went thru with the Model Y purchase. My plan was to eventually own a Model Y and a Cybertruck.

Now the Model X, with declining sales, is from $5,000 to $16,000 more expensive than the Cybertruck (+$5k price, loss of $7,500 Federal and $3,800 Colorado tax credits). Hard pass. Seems like an unfortunate way to really depress Model X sales. Why...?

People speculate about the weather too. It’s just what we do, right?

No!

lol

I meant to highlight the part about them being similar in size.
lol! Are you saying CT is too big or just right? They both fit in standard 20’ garage and standard parking, and CT is way more nimble to drive than X. CT might be 24” longer than X but doesn’t feel big when driving in tight spots. The only thing people keep saying is CT is bigger than X without never knowing how it maneuvers in tight spaces. I have parked in some of the most tight spots in SFO downtown. CT’s maneuverability is mind blowing.

I won’t be surprised if Tesla stops producing X in couple of years, or converts X into 7 a seater like R1S.

I have loaner X today. X’s round steering wheel is like a Dinosaur’s ass! My family had a harder time getting in and out of falcon wings in tight spaces. I can’t wait to return this loaner X and get my Beast back. ?

Tesla could be signaling MX customers that it’s time to embrace the future, rather than to stick to the past.
Very interesting. They contacted me several weeks ago about committing to my (day one) CT reservation. I told them I had been too disappointed in the value proposition of the CT (did not go into details about my other concerns of promised vs delivered), and asked if (jokingly) my refund would include interest for 5 years.....

Also told them we had decided to trade both Model 3's for a Model X instead (it meets my Home Depot and Bike hauling use cases with a trailer hitch).

Next thing I know they canceled my reservation and "refund in progress".

So I guess this is all my fault...
