Sorry to see some of you are dealing with this.

Could you all post your VINs? Think that’d be helpful to see if it’s only with certain ones where this is an issue.

Are they just glued back or they replaced the trim?
Sorry, I am taking it in on Mar 19th and they have parts on order. I assume that they will replace the trim piece.

With the number of people reporting similar problem it's a matter of time before a panel falls off and it's caught on video. I can only imagine the amount of negative publicity not just for Cybertruck, but Tesla as a whole - especially if the part falling off happens on a busy highway, or damages another vehicle or person.

In my opinion Tesla should address this, not only because so many people have the same problem, but also before something happens to make things worse.

NOTE: A rant is incorporated in this reply.

Of concern is vinyl wrapping and the use of 'Heat Guns'...so there is a wide spectrum of heat guns...all of which can strip paint right off a normal car, metal rubber and delaminate all kinds of things on your car when applied with a lack of skill.

They do make heat guns with temperature control...[not just air speed]...but Harbor Freight does not sell those. [..yes this IS a jab at Harbor Freight and cheap tools]

Car wash guys, detail guys, tint and vinyl pop-up shops are just a breeding ground for cheap labor, inexperienced labor and the entire eco-systems of 'it looks cool - so it must be a good job'.

I have my CT vinyl wrapped for about 6 months now and I do not have any panels peeling, I had it done at a brick-n-mortar tint/vinyl shop in Orange County, CA.

I don't know if it was the vinyl wrap that caused this, other 'factory' fresh CT are reporting panels coming off. It is a variable in the equation.

Tesla should take care of this, as a 108 degree summer day in California will get that Stainless steel temp up in the 140 - 160 F quite easily. Further, 'heat soaking' for a full day in blistering summer heat will have a much more detrimental effect than transient heat to any bond on or inside the vehicle.

I hope they take care of this for you.

Regards
Jack

Mine is vin 7000s and has around 10k miles. Issue started happening last month. I'm hoping this will be a recall at some point and a better fix than just glue

Any heat gun use that might damage the panel bonding would probably melt the vinyl first, not to mention making too hot to handle. Plus we've seen unwrapped panels coming off.

For anyone having this issue as a temporary fix until you get to service use this. Put pressure on it for a few hours to help it set.

Now that is definitely a factory problem. I'm going to geek out here.

Either :
1. The panel was not cleaned properly prior to bonding. [panel forming\stamping oil is thick gooey stuff - as it has to prevent mechanical damage to the panel when forming - it acts like a lubricant and a 'pad']
2. The panel was cleaned - but delayed too long prior to bonding.
3. The wrong bonding was used.
4. The right bonding, at the wrong external temperature & humidity. 'Cold Bond'
5. The right bonding, expired : has limited work time.

Tesla should step up - without issue and get this fixed. The question is: Can the repair center do this? Meaning is this bond in a 'caulking' tube or a 2-part which requires, mixing. [The tesla factory has this likely in 55 gallon drums with oxygen free or nitrogen filled dispensing systems]
..can they clean the panel properly for factory bond. Acetone: for example pulls water to the surface as it evaporates, more than 'dries'

Sorry man...let us know what they do.

Regards
Jack

Checked my truck (44k VIN) after watching that video yesterday. Noticed a small section on the rear driver's side quarter panel has stainless/glue separation.

IMG_8632.jpg

Not going to worry about it for now. Still have 3+ years of bumper-to-bumper warranty. I'll just wait for more separations to occur (if any) before opening a service ticket. Also, I'd rather have a future [ie better] fix than a current build replacement panel that will likely have the same issue.

If I notice sail panel separation, that's a different story. I'd put in a request for that right away.
Mine is starting in that exact same spot.
