Thanks to @Administrator for the un-ban. I did escalate the issue by replying back to the initial mudslinging (instead of just reporting it so it could be handled by you guys) , so I'll do better on that front next time.

Not sure if hijacking this thread would be appropriate, but I think we could all benefit from a more comprehensive understanding of the rules on the forum. You guys don't have an easy job by no means, so your work here is probably under appreciated. This wouldn't be a functional forum if it was totally void of sharing political opinions, but I understand there is a fine line to draw somewhere.

If we need to brainstorm the topic I'd be happy to help.

Yes, but here is the key difference that just doesn’t sink into your brain - level 3 is easy. Anyony can do it. Tesla can do it today without even batting on eye. But will Mercedes and Honda ever get above level 3? Absolutely not! Tesla is the only one out there that has a chance. And the chief expert, Elon, says it is not required then it will not be required. So you can go on fooling yourself but at the end of the day you will be proven wrong. Have fun ?

Sorry to see REM got banned. They ban you for frivolous things. I got a multi-week time out. And you know what I don’t care anymore. Now that the truck is out this forum has lost its luster. Now Facebook is good enough.

The owners/moderators forget that the MEMBERS make this forum the money maker that it is. Without members, no clicks, no money. They need to be VERY easy with the ban hammer.

Well said. Tesla could easily do level 3 but are aiming higher. Kind of the same way SpaceX could put a man on the moon tomorrow but are focusing on getting Optimus and CT on Mars ASAP.

The SAE Definition of Autonomous Driving Levels does not call out specific technologies, it only details the capabilities of self-driving without human intervention. LiDAR is not literally "required" and Tesla certainly intends to go forward without it.

Autonomy companies like MobilEye are dropping LiDAR due to the inherent limitations, instead focusing on radar as the preferred non-vision sensor.
