I viewed that opinion piece by Forbes as well. It was very negative towards the Cybertruck.

The 8 recalls until now seems high until you realize the truck is on a brand platform using novel manufacturing and assembly techniques never attempted before. The truck is loaded with high tech as well such as SBW, RWS, 48 volt architecture, etc.

I do think the truck will remain a low volume vehicle for Tesla. Leadership overestimated the demand for a BEV full size pickup truck in America. Buyers have spoken and they prefer fossil fueled pick up trucks.
Yeah the entire EV truck market is not doing what people expected. Buyer demographics seem to be the biggest issue. That and the higher prices. Everyone thought making an EV truck was a sure thing but turned out it wasn't.

i've had em all, well almost.
I have a Lightning Lariat and the couple days I have spent driving the CT blow away my Lightning. However I will say I love the creature comforts and amenities in the Lightning

Definitely drive one. I have had mine since Aug. It is absolutely amazing truck. I owned a ram 1500 and bought a Y while waiting for the CT. And now I have no ICE cars. So many little nice things about the truck. I even find that backing in is easier in the CT than my Y. I would not let those articles get you down

You get a warranty. Try it out. It's not like every one of the tens of thousands of CTs on the road are constantly dying and breaking. Most of us have had little-to-no problems. I've read all the stuff about QC, panel gaps, whatever. It hasn't been my experience. My insurance actually went down when I got a CT and I've had zero downtime or problems.

I wanted a BEV pickup. There are not many options. You could go with a Ford Lightning, and still have problems just by luck-of-the-draw. You could buy a Rivian and then they could disappear like Fisker and leave you with unsupported hardware. The reliability thing is a roll of the dice. The exact odds vary by make/model, but you typically just roll once and go. I think it's better to expect everything to work, and then pick based on the parameters you care about.

I bought a CT because of the tech. Adaptive steer-by-wire, fastest in-car computer interface, rear wheel steering, etc. (All other cars seem sluggish, awkward, and old fashioned now. ) Wes Morrill and his team did a great job. It's fun to drive. Kids love it.

I also bought it a bit because of the design-- I appreciate the low maintenance stainless steel, and the minimalistic interior. I appreciate the risks that Franz von Holzhausen took, and it's refreshing to see something different.

After 18,000+ miles, I’d buy something else and wait until you’re finished with that vehicle and then reconsider the newest CT at that time. The current CT has many growing pains to work through before it’s great. In my honest opinion.
A 3rd/5th generation CT should be the badass pickup truck we wanted.
For sure I know the longer I wait the better whichever Tesla I end up with will be. I have a '22 MX and the '25 is so much nicer than even my 3 YO X

I am seeing many Youtube posts making the case for the Cybertruck being a total failure and even surpassing the Edsel as the worst new car failure ever.
I have a Foundation CT on order, awaiting recall repairs for the cantrail issue so I haven't received my CT yet.
I am growing concerned that maybe this purchase is a mistake. The FUD is working.
Also, I am thinking if I hold out a little longer, until the 1st quater earnings call, maybe there will be some serious additional incentives on the CT if Tesla really does need to start moving these trucks due to super low sales and all the issues with panels falling off, etc.
I would sure appreciate the community's feedback on this.
Yeah, these are the same Youtubers who hate EVs usually... Like those few guys that 'destroy' the CTs while CLAIMING they are just 'testing' them... yeah, sure...

But, it's only a 'failure' if YOU don't like it! If YOU like it, then it's a great truck!

Just don't let the idiots brainwash you...

It's like the stock market right now... So many people are saying "I lost thousands"... Well, guess what... NO YOU DIDN'T... Unless you SOLD your stocks at a LOSS that is...

You don't MAKE or LOSE money in the stock market until you SELL stocks... Otherwise you are just 'investing'...

Don't let the haters turn you into a hater too... It's only a 'mistake' to buy one if you don't really want/need one... Don't worry about 'depreciation' either unless you plan to try and sell it in 3-4 years... If that's the case, I would buy a USED one that's already depreciated... But if you plan on keeping it for 6 or more years AND you can afford to buy ANYTHING brand new (they ALL depreciate BIG TIME in 1st MONTH), then go for it... Before inflation makes the prices go UP instead of down...

A lot of people, some here in the early days weee claiming it would outsell the F-150 line, not the Lightning, the entire F-150 line…. In that sense, yes, it’s a Big Flop…

But as far as an EV Truck. It’s the best selling 2 years in a row and pretty much destroying the competition. Elon built the ultimate truck, do not listen to You Tubers.
Over time I think it will; Tesla just need to get the cost down. They have an extremely successful track record of doing exactly that.

I have had tons of people comment something similar to this:

This truck is only 80K?! A basic F250 or a loaded fully loaded F150 is the same price!

It's only deemed a "flop" because 1M people dropped the measly $100 to reserve one, suggesting a much higher demand than could be realized at the final price points. A $1000 deposit would have made the reservation list size more meaningful.

If Tesla "only" sells 10k/quarter at $80k each, that's a $3B annual "flop". I should be so lucky!

This week marks the 1-year anniversary of my ownership and what a great ride it's been. It's been to the service center one time, when my winter wheel and tire package came in, and everything has functioned perfectly. If I wasn't told about the recalls, I wouldn't know they exist (they were performed when I had my winter tire package installed and performing the recalls was a completely invisible process that took no additional time).

I could afford a fleet of F-150 Ford Raptor R's at $130K each, and if I totaled my Cybertruck tomorrow, I would immediately get another Cybertruck. Not even a Tri-Motor, the Dual Motor is the sweet spot for what I need a pickup for. Every time I drive my Cybertruck it elevates my day in a way the F-150 never could.

While sales have been soft, I wouldn't attribute that to the ownership experience, I think it's due to the ignorance amongst new truck buyers and the way they have been misinformed at every step. It seems most of them think Cybertrucks are the opposite of tough, durable and safe, that it is poorly designed and built, that its dangerous, unreliable and fragile. None of these things are true, the Cybertruck ignorant just don't know any different than what they have been told by those trying to throw shade on Tesla. As people figure it out, sales will take off and eclipse old sales records. When autonomy is delivered it wouldn't surprise me to see the Cybertruck become production limited (and incentives will be gone).

Cybertruck has only been in production for one complete year. The first year of a new vehicle is NEVER it's best year. Anyone who knows anything about new model introductions know they always start out low and grow. Feel free to try to find counterexamples, because that is a very rare thing indeed.

I have not been successful in finding any great deals on used CT's. I think people bought FS early on and paid a lot and therefore are selling for very high prices. I don't see any prices low enough to supercede buying new, especially considering the current incentives. I am pulling the trigger because of 1.99, free supercharging and "demo" vehicle $7000 reduction.

That sounds like a pretty good deal to me!

Just remember, the Edsel never got any 'promotion' and such... The CT gets LOTS of attention, especially by 3rd party accessory makers like all the great ones that support this site! (hehe... plugging... plugging...)

I don't put much belief in CT reviews. I was on the fence, CT or Rivian. I got the CT and it is a much better at driving, charging, hauling (larger bed with a cover) and navigating. Rivian has a nicer interior.

You will not be 100% happy with a CT. You will either value the tech and features for 200% satisfaction or focus on the negatives and be 50% satisfied.

The prices on used in the aftermarket are not much of a "deal" due to the pricetag they paid.

Tesla dropped the ball on range and price, the biggest two metrics.
They knocked it out of the park on handling and performance.
The truck gets a LOT of attention but that will slowly go away, it will take some time, Tesla only sold 40k last year and this year is in route to selling less.
Tesla does not sell a lot of Model X and the company is doing fine.
