Can anyone summarize the state of things with the range extender or other after-market options ?. I just don't have the time to read through the history of this 9-page thread...

Thank you in advance...
?
- Tesla recently removed the option to reserve a Range Extender from the Cybertruck order page.

- Tesla has removed almost all references to the Range Extender from its website. The only remaining reference that I can find is on the Cybertruck FAQ page, which offers no new info. There are still some references to Wi-Fi range extenders, but those are a bit different.

- Tesla has not made any recent announcements about the Range Extender. They have not confirmed that the project is still alive, nor have they indicated that it has been cancelled.

- Tesla has not said anything about the status of the "non-refundable" deposits that were previously placed for the Range Extender. As far as I know, no one in this situation has heard anything from Tesla. Maybe someone will ask. If they do, maybe they will get a response.

- Aftermarket options similar to the Range Extender seem unlikely. Any external battery pack would require a high degree of integration with Tesla's hardware and software, which a third party probably could not provide without Tesla's cooperation. Even if a third-party got it to work, the next software update from Tesla could break it.

- Tesla has been known to leave projects and deposits in limbo for years. They started taking deposits for the Tesla Semi and second-generation Tesla Roadster in 2017, and those reservation holders haven't received much followup.

- If you want more definite answers, you'll have to ask Tesla. Maybe you will get a response.

I do appreciate the detailed response! ?

However, the previous response from @mongo was also sufficient for me too:

Tl;dr: the thread title
Actually, I am somewhat jealous at his ability to sum it all up in as few words as possible. That really does take a certain talent that I do not posses ?

So far no one.
No one yet... They are clearly stalling for time.
Once again I state, many things can be true at the same time within a large company.
Intensions are good and does not mean something can happen that causes them to pivot away from the product.

We should place bets. Over/Under on when we are notified about delivery vs deposit return $2000.

Guesses:
Positive or negative feedback from Tesla this summer. (latest end of 2025)

Wishing New Long Range variant allows for the range extender to be a premium accessory initially only for Foundation Series and brings down demand for the product while they finalize and ramp production.

Hi everyone! We are working on removable power bank for cybertruck for camping sites / last mile recharge option with supply 220vac max 5kw to mobile connector. The battery configuration either 14 kwh (which can be handled without crane tools by 2 men) either 28 kwh - need a portable gooseneck crane for lifting into the truck bed. Composed with 12kw peak / 5200 w continious output inverter and charger.
Device in a development phase, all components have been tested and shown a good performance. We plan to accomplish the fully working prototype within a month. All drawings and details of will be available upon completion.
A picture illustrated the frame position in the truck bed.

With kind regards from UAE.
Alex.

Tesla Cybertruck Range Extender Battery removed from Cybertruck online configurator 20250424_153614
First test performed to charge the truck from powerbank prototype using mobile connector at 220v, 5kw/21A 90-20% approx (average cell voltages 4.09-3.34 v for 24s bank ) resulting to 40kms of range added. Still working on fine tuning on inverter cutoff voltage to maximise the battery potential. For the prototype a model 3 standard range battery module in use 14kwh capacity.

Remaining tasks are to produce@ seal the enclosure with face panels and route/fix all loose wires, install a few accessories and prepare for test run. Hope to get it done within a few weeks, as this is a free time project ;)

With kind regards,
Alex

I’m just saying that this is a must have for me. Making the Cybertruck range a little longer is one thing, turning it into an unstrandable machine with the ability to leave anywhere given enough patience is another thing altogether.
I would rather have solar inputs with theoretical infinite range boost than even the highest tech battery adding however many kWh of storage.
You don’t have to provide the panels, everyone can figure that out for themselves since needs are very unique based on application, just the inputs.

I have the GoSun EV Vehicle Solar Charger on order for when it arrives in the 3rd QTR this year. (It’ll take years to pay for itself $3000, but after that it’ll be worth the peace of mind.)

Tesla has now removed the discussion of the Range Extender from the Cybertruck FAQs (it was still there in late April). As far as I can tell, all references to the Cybertruck Range Extender have been completely wiped from the Tesla website. It's like the RE never existed, not even as a concept.

LAME! The range extender was critical to my plans. Essential for traveling, towing and camping in the Rockies. Wish they could be sued!

I'm not a lawyer, but I'm guessing that Tesla can't be sued for cancelling an announced option.

On the other hand, I'm guessing that Tesla could be sued if they don't refund the "non-refundable" deposits that customers put down in good faith for that announced option.
