So do you think with most deaths by bear attacks attributed to hikers that the Park Service should outlaw hiking in the Park? Because tent-camper attacks are much more rare, and they outlawed that. When hiking you can accidently come between a mother bear and her cubs. While sleeping in a tent you are not a threat.

Try to think logically. Millions of people have died on the nations roadways yet no one is in a hurry to outlaw driving by amateurs. In contrast, since 1784 it's estimated that only 11 people have been killed by bears inside tents in the lower 48. And that includes all the people who do dumb things like bring food into their tents and/or have offensive perfumes and deodorants. Your chances of dying in a car accident on your way to the campsite are so much higher than your chances of dying from a bear attack that it's not even in the same ballpark.

This is an irrational fear. I asked Grok to summarize bear attack deaths inside tents in the lower 48:

The rationale behind the no softside in campgrounds is not for people protection . It has to do with bears accessing pop up campers insides. People would and do leave stuff lying around in a pop up campers. Which means one is estially leaving it right on the picnic table. Go go a hike and come back to a shredded pop up.

While hardside campers or mobile homes can be sources of food. These often are campers left in one spot that bears frequent again and again till they break in. Everyone hears about the bear that breaks into a cabin or a camper and stays there for a winter. That is often because no one is around, and they can take the time on those items that they often can't in a campground setting.

So it really isn't about bear attacks, more about easy access to food. Softsiders provide a false sense of where to put stuff.

@Hunter71294, great numbers. Can you show your setup fully deployed at a camping site?
We actually haven’t been camping yet. We have a trip planned for the keys in one month. But we want to do a trial in a week or two. Going on a trip to visit family or we would go this week. Here is a picture of it popped up though. Before I cleaned it with a magic eraser. Another picture showing how well it cleaned up.

Regardless of whether you have a tent or a pop-up tent camper, food does not belong inside. They allow ground tents, they should allow pop-up tent campers as long as sensible food protocols are followed in both cases.

But I believe this topic was originally raised in terms of being attacked while in the tent. Which is not a rational fear.

No because people often don't follow directions. We should have many things, this one of the ones we can't allow as most people are not sensible. Which is why we have rules that don't make sense to the sensible.

Looks great and a lot of space! Can you get a rear view camera shot of when you are towing? Curious how much you can see around the trailer while towing.

You cannot see anything behind you, the trailer blocks the view. The rear camera only shows the trailer.
When people are describing latest version I find this unhelpful because of the wide spread of current versions on various CTs. Could you possibly list both SW Version & FSD Version so there is no confusion? For example my current SW is v12 (2025.8.7 b3685a9c344b) & FSD is 13.2.8
So far I haven't found a way to get FSD to work but would be VERY interested in making that happen. One thing I did notice is if the tailgate is down FSD didn't work (no trailer) just a view of the road directly below the downward facing camera. I guess I assumed from that that a rear view was required, but perhaps that isn't true.
I have an older 2000 Trail Manor 2619 that weighs 2400 pounds dry, probably 2800-3000 the way I use it. I normally get around 2.7 mi/kwhr which dropped to 1.6 on mostly flat but slightly uphill while towing at 60 mph. I was hoping for something a little better with lower height and lighter weight. Plus having to disconnect to charge isn't great. I have yet to find a pull through space. I toyed with the idea of trying the evdances extension cable, but believe this would limit max charge rate to 50 amps or so. This could take longer to charge than disconnecting, driving to hopefully still available charger parking spot, charging 2 to4 times faster, then reconnecting. Plus the cost is not so cheap on sale now around $250 I think this one is 21 foot, but depending on the charging station layout may work from a few to no charging pedestals available without blocking other stalls.
We really need Tesla to finish the 4680 development to the point where they could offer 500 miles (or something closer). The battery extender is a nogo for me as I cram a lot of stuff in the bed including my electric trials motorcycle to close the tonneau. It is an EXTREMELY tight fit and I have to full the bike towards the open tailgate when unloading as quite often the bike shifts during the drive and the front tire rubs against the tonneau cover.
If they ever do get close to 500 miles I may be interested in upgrading, depending on if I am still riding when/if that ever happens.

BTW, I did find an INSEECam wifi camera that magnetically mounts to a steel plate I fixed to the rear Trail Manor bumper. It works pretty good, my iPhone mounted near the charging pads at the front of the console. It would be wonderful if Tesla could figure out how to include this view for FSD. (Yup, I know, not holding my breath)

I have a CCS1 adapter coming. They seem to have more trailer friendly chargers. Flying J has gas station style which I like. I don’t like the idea of unhooking but I’m sure I will need to on my trip to Montana several times. I agree around 500 miles range would be great. I’m sure they will get there it will just take time. For towing it would help a lot. Or if they had trailer friendly chargers every 100 miles that would work too. Especially once we get 800v V4 superchargers.

I'm not sure I will ever be in the market for a self powered trailer with regen (although lightweight solid state or some other advancements could do the trick, but likely hideously expensive). Still 500 miles while towing could be enticing ?

There’s the Pebble and The Lightship. Both really cool but I don’t see myself ever spending that much either ?.

Update:

Our test trip worked out well. It was a little too hot (95° hi) but we wanted to test things out and make sure we had everything we needed before traveling further. Once again right at 600 wh/mi with mixed driving mostly highway speeds. When we go to the keys in a couple of weeks I will have a better idea on highway efficiency.

I’ve had probably 10 trucks. Mostly diesel and I love this truck. Give me a tow mirror option, bumper steps, and higher tow capacity it would be about perfect. Oh and allowing use of AC outlets while charging AC would be awesome. And also a larger frunk with outlets.

I contacted all manufacturers of slide in camper pop-ups, one that turn into hard-sided when up.

They don't have one for Cybertruck and not customizing one for us.

This I think the best configuration to avoid a big hit on the range.
