This is the 'ball' I purchased. Covers all possibilites. I also keep the aero cover on unless I am actually towing. I hate kicking tow balls.

Does the recovery shackle mount interfere with the trailer coupler when going over bumps?
This one of the few ball mounts I've seen that meet Tesla's ~8 inch pin to ball distance (really 49" axle to ball). It does max out 1,000 pounds shy of Cybertruck's max towing though.

Lazy man tip!!!

Use the air suspension to raise and lower the truck, you don’t have to mess with cranking the trailer jack that way. At least it Works for me.
I think the truck automatically goes to “medium” ride height when in tow mode. Makes it easier to calculate drop requirement.

ride height adjustment definitely makes sense for connecting trailer. The Pebble trailer does something like this.

Tesla recommends Low height for towing. When in trailer mode, it doesn't switch from medium to low when at speed.

I’d wait to buy the ball until you know what you are towing. My horse trailer required a 2” lift and the flatbed I use needs a 2” drop. Luckily I can flip the hitch I bought for both, but if I’d bought a straight one it wouldn’t have worked.
I do turn off lower for entry when I’m going to tow. It makes it easier to hitch. I also leave the cover on if I’m not towing. Compared to my old truck this thing hitches in no time, even dealing with the hidden turn screws on the cover. I wish I could replace those with something easier.

FWIW, most trailers need a 2" ball.
"Hello, Central Trailer and Trucking, this is Dave."
"Hi Dave. Do you have two-inch balls?"
"Yes."
"Really? How do you walk??"

So far the only thing I've towed with it is a mini excavator. It did not interfere with the trailer in any way.

Might be more than you need but it’s my favorite and most useful. We tow 4 different types of trailers so we bit the price bullet.

What is the horizontal pin to ball distance?
About 6-8” depending on what mounting point you use on the hitch. The recommended 8” or 49” from axle is max distance from what I remember.
