It's 3m 2080. Six months all black, six months with the woody. Time to change it up and go red!

Wood is over the black, so I'm not worried about that part. Has anyone out there peeled a 3m wrap?

First. I really love that wrap. I have peeled flexishield ppf to gain about $2k of Tesla trade value.
Start with a corner and pull in both an x and y plane. Reposition your hands to stay about 6 inches from the body as you’re pulling. If an area starts to tear approach it from another direction.
I had a bottle of dish soap water I sprayed at the edges occasionally when a piece was stubborn but I’m not sure it helped very much.
I think there are some pics here:

Oh. Also. Do it somewhere cool or use a swamp cooler or something. It’s way harder work than it looks.
tricep day for sure.

Good tip. I was thinking the hot sun might help

There are probably wrap experts who can comment on adhesion and flexibility and such here but I didn’t feel like it made a huge difference and the discomfort of doing it in the sun was not worth it.
Could always park it in the sun intermittently but work somewhere cooler

Yeah, parking in the hot sun really helps with softening the PPF/vinyl and with a cleaner removal. The other option is hot towels applied to each section as you remove it.

The downside of doing it outside is that it's a hell of a workout, your hands will get sweaty and slippy, and you'll hit yourself in the face at least twice. Ask me how I know.

Enjoy!

I've seen vinyl shops use compressed air to 'bubble' up the old wrap - which makes peeling it off much easier and less hassle.

Just stick a rubber nozzle air hose from a compressor under a peeled flap of the old vinyl.

So it went pretty easily! Took me probably 3-4 hours to remove it all. It's mostly just muscling it off. I'd pull it out in the sun to warm it up a bit and then bring it back in the shade to work. I'm not sure it made much of a difference. I did try a heat gun on a stubborn spot to see if it miraculously became super easy, but no. You just have to pull and tug, and that's all there is to it.

Left no residue. I just wiped the panels down with alcohol before putting the new wrap on, but if I was leaving it naked I don't think even that would have been necessary. The woodgrain was another story, I would never put that directly on the stainless. It's clearly not meant to be removeable and left a lot of glue, but since it was over the other vinyl it didn't matter.

And now it's red! Just like getting a new truck. This is the 3M 2080 G203 Gloss Red Metallic. It really has a lot of metallic in it and looks very different depending on lighting. I LOVE IT
