Well... we live on a planet where governments mandate these types of warning labels, so I don't think there is much left out there that would actually shock me.

We have to explicitly tell people not to eat bathroom cleaning chemicals. Those same people have drivers licenses, and can't be bothered to understand electronic locks, and backup manual release handles.

People are suing because Tesla is a trillion+ dollar company. That's the bottom line.

Right, the digital child locks would be pointless if there were a readily-available manual release.

I've no idea what the safety regulations say about child locks, but I'd think that an accessible release lever would be fine if it were spring-loaded to require sufficient force to activate. An adult, particularly a distressed one, could easily pull a stiff lever that a child could not even budge.

They could always hide it under a child-proof cap like on the medicine bottles, but even I can't get those damn things open lol

• The pyro fuses cut off the HV pack when the airbags deploy, leaving only the MV battery, so power down everything except the computer, screens, and doors.
• Display escape instructions on all screens, showing the locations of the manual releases.
• Announce this info over the speakers ("USE MANUAL RELEASE. USE MANUAL RELEASE...")
• Pop open all doors after a brief delay (once the vehicle is at rest).
• Roll down the windows after a brief delay.

Of course, some of these won't work; the doors may be damaged, or windows shattered. And none of it will work if the electronics have been compromised, but when available it will improve the occupants' chances.

Personally I support some sort of regulation in this area. Ideally mechanical levers that do not require power and are not hidden. I think the solution in the front seats of the CT is perfect, maybe with slightly better labeling. The rear seats solution is bad. A nice bonus would be if you pull the emergency lever an extreme amount it detaches the glass lifting mechanism, allowing it to fall into the door.

Warnings don’t necessarily help. There are mandatory warning labels on deep fryers now that warn people against attempting to deep fry frozen turkeys and yet every year, without fail, no matter what part of the country I’m in, there is at least one asshole…

I’m not sure why they don’t make that giant windshield and roof glass a bit like an emergency escape window from a bus that can be kicked out in a pinch. Especially since they are so resilient.

Again, when small children are seated in the rear of any vehicle, and the child locks engaged, it is to prevent their self-actualized egress. To my knowledge, there is no vehicle anywhere that reverses child locks post-collision.

Conversely, an adult would presumably open the rear door from the outside, although power is required when physical handles are lacking. But even handles are useless if the doors remain locked.

Clearly there are no easy answers. Chaos reigns post-collison, making it nearly impossible to account for all variables.

These are good and I fully agree. But I'd also like to see illuminated strips on the floor that lead you to your designated nearest exit.

My thinking on child locks...if the child is too young to recognize the danger of opening the door, he or she is probably in a car seat, or at least a booster. Getting to the bottom of the door's storage bin, peeling up the rubber, etc , is probably impossible due to reach distance and complexity. Never say never, but security by obscurity seems reasonable. Unfortunately, in a stressful situation, I'm not convinced that a typical adult would have the presence of mind to find the release. So your idea of popping all the doors seems like a great one. That would also help first responders if the passengers are incapacitated.

They need to remain intact during a collision lest they become a projectile. Plus, as JCERRN said, weight. They're very heavy, aren't they?
