Wes Morrill says:

This is back in stock - we are trying to keep up with demand. I've seen a few folks getting good use of theirs already!

Also will be added to the configurator soon so you can put underbody armor on your vehicle straight from the factory.

Why would they make the battery shield out of aluminum and not some kind of steel plating? Wouldn't steel be less likely to dent or take damage?
Weight reduction, corrosion resistance, and preference for deformation versus imparting force into the attachment points?
The shield is there to get damaged instead of what's underneath and hopefully the sound of scraping makes the driver reconsider their track.

Is this a pure "off-roaders" accessory? Would it provide enhanced aerodynamics/range in every-day driving? I'd love to hear thoughts on other benefits/downsides as I'm considering it.

Wes said his energy usage improved slightly and others report their truck seems to handle better (possibly due to lower center of gravity and increased stiffness).

Weight savings and can be stronger than steel.

ya but its like $3500! Geez. there should have been a plate there to begin with. I think my skid plates for my F250 were like $275 Oh but I guess that was in 08!

There is skid plate there already that does a fine job of protecting your battery and an additional 15-20mm air gap after the OEM skid plate. So no you don't need this to go off rode or F around. But if you are going to be around jagged rocks the armor package and steel sliders are worth it. For the size and quality this is cheap!
