I can trust FSD almost all of the times except for when another driver does something stupid. Primary them cutting in front of me as a blind spot lane change maneuver. I have taken over control every time this has occurred (that I am aware of). Any feedback on how it handles the situation for folks that have had actually let it decide?

From a year ago:

In highway FSD today, the dense traffic left little room for lane changes, leaving me stuck to the left. A Prius darting between lanes expressed his disappointment by cutting me off and brake-checking. FSD didn’t care, and simply adjusted.

I considered disengaging and giving chase, but then thought ā€œoh, he’s stuck driving a Priusā€. Poor bastard.

I actually think it’s MOST useful when another driver does something stupid.
It handles unpredictable better than I do the majority of the time.
Wouldn’t it be nice if you could see and process things in all four directions when trying to quickly decide how to compensate for adjacent jackassery?

Firstly, by blind spot I’m assuming you mean front left or front right, the spot we can’t quite see in sentry mode. The truck (or any Tesla for that matter) doesn’t actually have blind spots. There’s 3 cameras in the front, 2 of which we can’t view, but FSD can. Look up those views, it’s pretty impressive. It sees all - nothing to worry about.

This isn’t directly related, but just today traffic came to a screeching halt in front of me. I saw it well in advance and thought to myself ā€œyou better get on those brakes, FSD.ā€ It braked so gently yet came nowhere near an accident. I’m blown away time and time again how smooth and safe it is. Hard to put into words in a forum post lol.

I should reiterate that if I had not reacted and FSD didn’t react that I would have been sideswiped.

Cyberhorn that bish!

But really, at a certain point some things can’t be avoided. Most can (like this one), but not all. I drive for a living and humbly consider myself one of the best drivers on the road at any given time. I’ve been in 3 accidents in the past 9 years. Drive enough and you will find idiots who will make it unavoidable. Accidents will always happen until all cars are autonomous.

It’d be awesome if we could somehow get every Tesla with FSD and reserve a big city and watch how traffic flows for a day. Just to display to the world what life could be like.

Tesla I would think, in theory, they could model that out. But in real world, I could see some huge value to that test.

I honestly can’t decide if it would totally eliminate traffic jams or not. I’d need to see it in action. FSD still does the ā€œaccordionā€ a bit in stop and go traffic like most humans do, so it’s hard to say.

I’m a cop. The black and white elephant seems to be a target for drunk drivers on night shift. Better me than someone else though!
Thank you for all you do man. I work very closely with police here in Phoenix. Closely enough to know the last few years have been anything but easy in your field. I understand it’s a bit of a calling more than just a job and I can really relate to and respect that.
Doing what you love and standing up for what you believe in the face of adversity takes true strength.

So go find some batteries and chow down…

Yeah there’s definitely a lot of overlap in our lines of work. You guys have to cure incarceritis for me quite often. It’s crazy how often I find some low life that needed the hospital at that exact second.

Haha. They always like me more. Think about it. What’s better, hanging out with me, ordering room service and being paid attention to by a nursing staff or hanging out with you?
you might be very charming in real life but that’s a loaded dice.

Yeah, objectively speaking, it makes perfect sense. In reality, it’s annoying AF and I wanna off load them and go get snacks 🤣

Clearly we don’t love it either. I’d rather get sleep between real traumas than dance around people’s BS in the most politically correct way possible.
