Here is my version of the ultimate Starlink mount.
Quick and easy removal if needed. Just waiting for a short 3ft power supply I ordered. plugs into bed outlets. No body parts had to be removed. I do need to make a slight angle adjustment, so it follows body lines exactly

I just bought the ContronX Mini Mount (3 suction cup version). I plan to wean off the Mobley hotspot that lives in the CB for now and get the Mini positioned for travel service. I do use the roof shade so I will need to run simultaneous to see how much of a chore it is to install and remove the Mini in the secured mount. I live in a high heat area now and I don't want to cook the Mini under glass.

I live in Phoenix and had the same concerns but even with a black ppf cover on the mount, my mini does not cook. It’s a question of using the correct tint. Something non-metallic so it allows the signal through but with excellent thermal protection properties.

Yeah, I’ve got the Darkest Xpel tint I could on all the windows to mitigate the heat in SoCal.
Starlink works no problem through it.

I never planned on tinting the roof glass because of the shade screen.

These are great options - thanks for sharing your research
I ended up going with the PeakDo due to the form factory and battery. Just wrapping up final testing and will do a write up next week. So far it’s absolutely perfect for me!

Relatively speaking, a mini is a hardware investment that’s easily justifiable. It evaporates costwise over a very short period because the price isn’t outlandish but it’s a device that will allow you a lot of freedom you didn’t think you needed once you have it.
There is basically no place where you have no access to the modern age. Ever.
Do I think you should get one? Yes. I think everyone who can afford one should.
I know full well I’m being a terrible influence here and encouraging you to spend money you weren’t going to spend but in my opinion a CT without a starlink is kind of incomplete.
Wow! That was so well put I have a Mini on order. Thank you! Not a terrible influence, a true voice of reason!

I think I would like to mount it under the roof glass above the rear seat. I don't want to 3D print a mount, I want to fork over the money for a high-quality suction mount but I haven't been paying attention to what's available. Looking for a sleek, lightweight, high quality suction mount, even if it seems "over-priced". I like minimalistic, but with high quality suction devices. Any recs?

I also need to decide how to power it. I have no problem trusting the 48V roof feed to not fry it, but I'm unclear on whether the USB-C provides enough current. What are the pluses and minuses of these two power options in terms of when they are powered and off? I don't plan on having a roof lightbar ever, and I don't care if I dedicate the rear USB power to Starlink. Would that impact the available power to the front console USB (or are the two USB power supplies separate?). Apologies if this has been covered but the thread is kinda long!

Just FYI- If you have one of the Larger fixed Starlinks on a Residential Plan they are “giving away” free Mini’s . You just need to keep at minimum a Monthly Standby Plan on the Mini @ $5/ month.

That's all good if you have a use case for a larger fixed Starlink but most of us do not.

But now I'm curious how it works, do they share the same data plan?

I’ve got two fixed based Residential Plans as we are Off Grid. The mini has its own plan.
One additional use case for having a Fixed base Residential and/or at least a Mini is for emergency backup Communication. We lost our home in the Woolsey Fire and have been living off grid on the property since 2018 waiting for Re-Build permits. When the recent Palisades Fire rolled through we were one of the few people to still have Comms because power was down and subsequently, Cell Towers and local cable and fiber providers went down as well. If you don’t have your own back up power and Satcom you’re SOL.

Third party 65W USB-C cables work, but may have issues if you plug things into the other two ports.
Cabin USB can stay on if you activate accessory keep on (but it drains the main battery). Roof feed doesn't have a keep awake option.

Very helpful!

One reason I pulled the trigger on the Mini (besides the very low price) is that I realized in the event of a major West Coast earthquake (ie. "the big one"), all the fiber and cable infrastructure would be down, the cellular site backup power would eventually fail before all the bridges and roads could be repaired, and it would be complete chaos. I think Starlink could abandon damage earth stations and transmit from satellite to satellite to continue to serve the damaged region (perhaps at some expense of bandwidth in other areas).

I guess this makes me lean towards the USB option. I don't like the idea of the USB cable sticking out of the back of the center console and subject to damage because I use the rear seat area a lot for cargo so, unless I can find a nice 65W or higher USB cable with SL Mini power plug on one end and a right-angle USB plug on the other, I might have to graft a power cord directly onto the wires that feed the USB port.

The frunk feed can be left on and in my view that’s optimal for Starlink and a fridge and probably a small power station in the frunk.
220w by 48v to a river2 pro, about 60w to Starlink and about 60w to the fridge. Well under the 400w allowance and continuously on even when charging on level 2
