I'll never forget that reveal, probably one of the most memorable of any car for better or worse. I remember thinking the features ridiculously good and the pricing too good to be true, that if they bring it to market it will dominate the industry. The styling was jarring and took a while to settle in for me. After a few days I couldn't stop thinking about it and eventually started to love it. It also looks way better to me with the refinements they made and in the lower suspension setting.

Obviously the features mostly made it to production but the pricing didn't. If they ever get it to that price it will dominate the market, but that seems like a challenge.

Adding features during development like RWS, air suspension, SBW, overbuilt vault cover, etc, just kept inflating Tesla‘s COGS and therefore the MSRP. If Tesla had stuck to the 2019 $40k, $50k, and $70k reveal prices you would see Cybertruck’s at every traffic light.

Experts estimate that Tesla spent $2B on Cybertruck development.

I think they anticipated much more rapid development and cost-effective production of 4680s. They were planning a double-stack battery for 69k. I do think in time the battery cost will come down and with it the price of the truck. Getting it down 5-10K (without stripping features) could double sales.

Can't believe it's been 6 years since the Cybertruck reveal.

What were your original first thoughts when it drove onto stage??

I remember showing the kids and we all just stared frozen like we just saw an alien ship landing in our front yard and didn't know what to make of it. It took me a few days of looking at the reveal video and released images for it to totally click with me.

Unveiling event again to watch for fun

I remember saying that if they actually make that, I want one. Now I have been the proud owner of a CT for over a year

What was it like be there in person??? That had to be crazy to see. I imagine it would be like you were instantly transported to the future.

As soon as the truck drove on stage, I said, "What the fuck is that?" I eventually grew to like the design. I still do, but I really wish they had not tweaked the exterior. I can't think of the right words, but I prefer the sleeker, cooler (more angled?) look of the concept truck. Both versions are badass and brutal, but the original balanced it with looking cool.

I think the shark skin appearance of the CT concept was spot on. The current SS panel blotchiness does not look as good IMO.

I really enjoy the fact that Tesla concept vehicles pretty much resemble the production versions.

I didn't even want a truck, but fell in love instantly.

Isn't that upper image a render? It's at least PhotoShopped, because my DRL bar doesn't shoot out a death beam lol. This image is probably why so many people mistakenly thought the DRL bar was the headlights.

I think so, but it still seems accurate to the prototype. This is the prototype from the Peterson Museum; they should have kept this look for the production version. I will say, I do prefer the charging port being integrated into the fender and the removal of the handles, those were good changes.

Everyone remembers that the pricing was a big miss. But another big miss was the timing. The reveal was in late 2019, and CT production was supposed to begin two years later, in late 2021. As late as May 2021, Tesla was forecasting CT deliveries by the end of 2021, as previously discussed on this forum.

In fact, CT production didn't start until late 2023, so four years after the reveal (instead of two). That long delay was the first tip-off that something wasn't going according to plan.
