Test in various positions around your listening position and plot them all, might have been in an anti-node.

Really the only position that makes sense is where the drivers ears are. I tried to put it lose to that. Next time I think I will sit in the passenger seat, and place the mic exactly where the drivers ears would be. I really don't care what it sounds like in the back seat. I care what it sounds like where I sit.

anyone have a good eq setting?
I'm going to run some more tests and see if I can get a good setting to give as flat of a response as possible throughout the entire range. I'm going to try to do that this weekend, the video may take some time to edit.

I did take other measurement with different settings, though not on camera. the bass and sub settings boost a very large frequency so it does not change the drop from 40 to 30hz. I can do a longer video where I test several different ways and post the hi res graphs if there is interest from enough people.
im no audiophile but if your work ends up telling me the optimal eq for a stock system ill set it there with gratitude!

Wow…40 dB spread…that’s huge…is it really 1,000-10,000x louder @ roughly 40-80 Hz than at 10-20 Hz? I don’t have an intuitive feel for the sound, but the math is shocking.

The graph is correct. 40db IS 10k x louder. Seems crazy. I do know that low frequency and high frequency sounds are perceived quite differently to human ears.

Good call…it’s like light…how much brighter something appears to be depends on color…

After some research, a flat curve is not what you want in a vehicle. For a theater, or for a mixing engineer, sure, but research shows that the ideal curve is something called a "harman curve", shown below.

Someone needs to get Amir or Erin to test this thing! ;)

I have a calibrated mic (home audio use) but honestly never even thought to do this. I think the stereo is great, and I've been in car audio for decades.

It's not as good as the custom multi thousand dollar systems I have in my BRZ and FiST, but it's MORE than good enough to not want to spend a ton to try and upgrade it. Especially with all the proprietary Tesla stuff going on. I hate new vehicles in that regard.

My 2013 Mustang GT CS was the last car I actually attempted to properly upgrade, the integrations of screens/hvac/amps, too much to bother dealing with.

I do have the eq set to an exaggerated harmon curve, to fit my personal tastes, and it does still miss a bit of the punch in the upper base, but it's definitely good enough for me.

My Y is weak sauce in comparison, but my wife loves it, and I don't drive it much. ;)

If you habitually listen to music at those levels that little dip between 30Hz and 40Hz is the least of your worries, lol.

Interested to see what other settings reveal. I'll have to mark this thread to stay up to date. Would be even better if you could get your hands on a set of LH woofers to see if they make a difference. I would imagine a more efficient speaker can use the power delivered to drive them harder and fill in that void somewhat. For me, some big bass is what I miss the most when it comes to modern vehicles. It used to be so much easier to rip out the head unit and throw in an aftermarket stereo with amps and speakers/subs.
