I'm Very seriously considering upgrading to the new dual motor Cybertruck from my 2026 Model Y. This build is pretty much what I wanted when I made a 2019 day one reservation (recently cancelled). Don't need the rear screen or heated rear seats or cooled front seats, prefer cloth seats. Seven speaker sound system is ok. I don't tow. Just as happy with the coil spring setup due to long term maintenance costs. I also have the full $8k FSD and Tesla says it's transferable if ordered by 3/31. It also sounds like the $59k price may going up after 2/28.

A couple questions. Right now I'm paying $99/month for insurance on my Model Y. Any idea what effect changing to the Cybertruck will have on insurance costs? Also does this build have the option of 4 crossbar attachment points (I often carry canoes and kayaks)?

Any information and/or ideas are welcomed.

As someone who upgraded from a 2020 Model Y (bought my CT AWD in December 2024), all I can say is you're going to absolutely love it!

Regarding the crossbar mounts, I don't see any details on Tesla's site but I'm willing to bet it includes the mounting points. I also remember when the RWD was available, it had the mounting points but you had to buy the plastic trim piece that has the cutout for the mounting points. Back then the Tesla Shop sold this trim piece but it's no longer listed so my guess is the standard AWD will come with it.

As for insurance, there are too many variables that impact the price. I'm in MA and my insurance went up from a 4 year old Model Y to the CT.

Ill expand, yes you will love it, but it is bigger than the MY, i'd do a 48 hour demo drive, make sure you and wife are ok with the size, we were

racks
there are 4 cross bar mount points (1pr is a bar mount point), 2 ready at rear and open, 2 ready and closed/hidden in front, my typical setup running is 3x bars as the most rear gets in the way of working in the bed

to uncover the 2x front mount points, have to pay $150 for Tesla to redo the applique, covers
worth it
the Tesla bars are not cheap, $400 per, but they are quick release removal, high end engineering
I have the EVBase bars and its a project getting them on and off
why remove? long distance travel, they hit the efficiency and why not enjoy lower wh/mile if you can
summary:
order and have Tesla complete the front applique installs, left and right, $150 includes install
if you can afford, order the Tesla bars
if you cannot, order the cheapest evbase adjustable or the more expensive fixed but better, they have 2x for the front and 2x for the rear

Great information, Thanks! I didn't know that it was only a plastic piece that covered some of the mounting points on the RWD. Great news for those of us that have to have roof racks. Gotta say, I loved my 2022 Model Y and the 2026 Model Y is even better. I made the "mistake" of doing a test drive of the Cybertruck last year. Next level but I couldn't justify the cost for my use case. I ordered the $59k Cybertruck last night. The trade in quote on my model Y was only $1500 less than I paid. I can live with that. :)

Everybody's insurance will be different, just ask your current company for a quote. Mine decreased from my M3P. Less than my wife's 25 Land Cruiser.
Through Progressive our '25 MYP is $157 and the CTAWD is $172

I did a 1 hour demo drive last year and have another scheduled for tomorrow. Wish I could get a longer demo. I live in rural mid MN so size isn't much of an issue and stay out of Minneapolis for obvious reasons. In my area people are sane for the most part. I'm 76 and my wife is gone but the dogs will love it as long as it takes them places. :)

I have the Tesla (made by Yakima) bars on my Model Y. They're $500 but that's not bad compared to other quality options. $800 is ok and quick release is great. The Model Y bars hold well but it's important to be careful when installing due to the glass roof. I leave them on and they don't seem to affect efficiency. The aftermarket copies are not good for heavy duty use. The Cybertruck bars may be different. BTW, one BIG reason for the Model Y over the Model 3 is that the Model Y bars have a 36" spacing while the Model 3 is only 28". That's a big difference when carrying a 18.5' canoe. I like the ability to choose different mounting points for different loads on the Cybertruck.

Thanks for the heads up on EVBase. Their racks look great, especially the fixed version as you say. I did order the $59k dual motor last night and Tesla confirmed that the FSD from my Model Y will transfer.

Yep, but a lot of it's due to the EV credit last year. That said they also gave me a very good trade in on the 2022 Model Y. A bonus is that it takes thousands of dollars off the sales tax (at least in this state) when you trade it in to Tesla.
