Tesla is already performing a soft recall.
Are you sure? I’m so confused about this situation.

Yeah, they have identified the problem much earlier than it seems, and everyone is reporting the exact same cadence.

It will partially fail for a short while, but when your scheduled appointment gets closer, it will stop AC charging completely to help prevent total failure (and a scenario where someone is stranded and in need of a tow).

The first few folks who reported it here had to tow because either their appointment was a ways out, or because it wasn't quite a big issue to them yet. I think Tesla has specifically programmed a systemic soft shutdown so folks treat it with more urgency.

Notice now how everyone is reporting that they are getting loaners with no problems and can just drop their truck off before the appointment? Tesla treats problems charging with the highest urgency.

What is a “soft recall”?
It's not an official regulatory term but generally refers to voluntary, pre-emptive, or low-profile action taken by OEMs on their own initiative, without (or before) a full government-mandated formal recall.

By the time any official recall takes traction, Tesla will probably be completely done with the process except for the paperwork and after-action reports lol.

Yep. Happened to me yesterday - '24 Foundation with 22k miles. Just dropped it off for repairs. I was actually glad to get it over with since I will be driving a lot this spring and summer.
Does anyone know if "getting it over" is permanent? Are they replacing with a new, presumably better tested, design?
