I believe the motivation is 2-fold
1. Elon Musk believes, right or wrong that the value of FSD is that it will make the car a revenue stream for the owner and once it’s quantified they can adjust the subscription price accordingly. And keep as many cars (unsold) and add them to their fleet of robotaxies.

2. As I understand it, his compensation package is tied to the number of subscribers. Not FSD purchasers. So, kill one and the other grows.

You're describing added complexity for both consumer and Tesla. The Elon/Tesla philosophy is to drive to simplicity.... $99 (or higher) every month, for every car. No transfers, no one is 'owed' different hardware, etc.

You can wish for a lot of things, but Tesla has already told us what to expect.

- Pay full price for a Tesla vehicle. Then pay $99/month and get FSD.
- Pay full price for a Tesla vehicle. Don't pay $99/month and don't get FSD (or even Autopilot, for that matter).

If you don't think that the "Commit to FSD, get a discount on a Tesla vehicle" model is reasonable, then do you see any alternatives to the two existing options?

I don’t see any other models. Simple subscriptions. Just like a dozen other things you might have today.

Elon doesn’t even really want to make cars for consumers anymore… just robots and Robotaxis.

Spoke to somewhat Tesla and they said it should be rolling out of the factory by the end of the day.
So I’m guessing they must have the line back up again
Maybe I’ll see some bonus upgrades

Grok thinks it was built mid March
I thought maybe that the director armor package was installed after it was manufactured but grok said no it’s part of the manufacturing line so it wouldn’t cause any delays

Replaced my last wheel fairing. Replaced rear left one 3 times departing from a parking space along side a curb on the passenger side. I have it set to lower when parked. It remains low when leaving and clipping the curb turning right where it would uotherwise roll over it if it weren’t at entry level… could easily be fixed with a software update.
