what are these stains? tried rust remover and have the ProTectaClear

Hello,

long time lurker. Got my CT delivered last week AWD and been uneventful. I ordered the ProTectaClear and have been reading about detailing the truck.
I sent the truck to my detailer to do some tint and apply the ProtectaClear.

They did the BKF and Windex that is in the kit but they can't get these stains out. They searched forums and grabbed some rust remover and it looks the same. They tested a small area with a polishing wheel but worried it would change the finish.

What is this and is there a way to remove it?

Definitely looks like over spray in the first picture and some type of cleaner run off in the second one, both were probably from using the incorrect ph cleaner from detailing and forgetting to dry or neutralize in time. You could try to neutralize but it's probably been washed enough after noticing. With a few weeks time it will blend back in a lot better, but just like a normal car if you leave corrosive chemicals on it it will stain/affect the panels so make sure it gets a really good rinse after the wash and keep away from other people spraying alkaline chemicals

Correct, ProtectaClear will lock in whatever finish you have, so you have to make sure it looks exactly how you want it before coating.

I wish I could help you with the light areas. Detailers have been struggling to even them out.

The passivating cleaners like BKF will resolve these spots, BUT you must work the whole panel to make it lighter rather than "removing the spot". It might take repeated applications to get an even finish. Using an orbital buffer will save you from "Mr. Miyagi" syndrome lol

cool. how long do u think the finish last? The truck doesnt quite fit in my garage so it will be outside most of the time

I figure when it wears off can give the steel another go

yes, the one in the kit didnt put on as even as they wanted and even though it was suppose to self level they didnt quite like it so they removed the layer and re did it. It looks like glass!

Mine was delivered with some BKF/Windex resistant finger prints. Currently waiting for Tesla Service to resolve. I'm not sure if yours have the same issue or not.

thank kinda looks like my side panel. there is one that looks like a drip of some kind on the drivers door. let me know if there is a way to get it out. I figure as the truck is longer out people will develop something or figure something out

Well it rained last night so truck not the cleanest but man the protectaclear really shed the rain well!

here are some of the pics. I can see more of the spots that got “stained” from before that BKF couldnt get out

but so far so good
