60k Cybertruck questions - mainly about downgrades from premium AWD

I'm guessing the lower tow and payload is a result of the load carrying capacity of the stock tires (18" rims). You can spec the larger wheels/tires but at a cost of $2500. Springs would be easy to replace with more robust units.

Side note, I prefer the SAWD CT. Let me tell you why:

1) Grey interior is the best color imo. White doesn't mesh well with the CTs interior and adds glare.

2) I prefer the textile seats. Softer and more comfortable. Owners report that the ventilation on the premium models doesn't work well anyway.

3) Spring suspension will be less problematic over time. Feels more connected to the road. I don't tow or off-road anyways.

4) No rear screen is a plus for me. Doesn't protrude out so the rear passengers get more room. You also don't have to worry about a screen breaking when loading stuff in the back.

5) I ordered mine when it was the $60K fire sale. What a deal of the decade. Definitely not worth the $20K upcharge for a premium.

Regarding #1. I would agree I test drove two demo trucks one with white interior and the other with black. The white I did not like, seemed to reflect more and felt distracting. Clearly it’s subjective but I prefer the darker interior.

I went down a rabbit hole this weekend into the parts catalog and wiring diagrams of the Cybertruck.

The other main differences being the rear taillight and the bed lights.

It’s plug and play for the rear light bar taillight. The bed lights are more tricky, but also plug and play. You just have to replace the full side panels first.

You can, but you also need the side panels as well. They don’t mount the same unfortunately. The side panels on the premium have the L-tracks integrated as well.

It’s hard to tell exactly if the non-premium bed sidewall is one entire plastic piece (I am leaning towards this), or two separate pieces.

If it is two separate pieces then that bracket should/could work.

The reason I think the side wall on the non-premium is one piece though is because the L-tracks Tesla sells for the RWD and now the non-premium are a different design than the premium L tracks. You’d think if the side wall was the same design, they wouldn’t create a new part. Below is an image for the premium model side wall. It’s $800.

Interesting. Crazy to think they’d make a different sidewall but who knows.

I hope if there’s sufficient demand, a company will develop a strip light that can accommodate the SAWD.

Agreed. Maybe Tesla will some options too.

The other aspect that isn’t considered is the vehicle software controls/visualizations. Any electrical sort of thing that is changed, won’t be reflected in the settings.

This only really matters to dim the bed lights on the light bars, and visualize them though.
