My first long distance drive with the LTX actually caused me to submit a service request because the efficiency was so poor. I still have yet to figure out how to post photos on here but my tessie said avg speed was 68 on the freeway, 100% FSD, top speed was 78, average temp was 24F clear skies and I went 95% to 24% in 122 miles using 687 wh/mi. No significant wind that day and the vehicle was pre-warmed before leaving due to being in the garage, tessie said the battery was at 60F when I started the trip and never got under that.

Edit:missing a word
Something isn't right with that.
I hydroplaned with the OEM tires in rain ~60mph with about 20K miles (still had tread - not on FSD). Scary. So, got the Michelin Defender LTX Platinums and now have about 15K miles on them, including 2 cross country road trips. They've been great tires so far. I'm getting 450 wh/mile, including road trips, loaded, and I usually have the spare tire in the bed. Drive hwy more than half of the miles, at 70 or 80mph. 687 just sounds way too high. Think I got 680 wh/mi carrying a load of cinder blocks.

Like I said, I had tesla inspect the vehicle because last time I saw number like that was when I was towing about 4k lbs through the Sierra Nevadas and the temp was -10 to -20 F. I was actually getting better efficiency in that case. Tesla found nothing. As such, I have yet to get under 400wh/mi unless i am doing under 50 mph.

rolling resistance, a negative to range is amazing, I was going north on I95, florida normal efficiency and then at the Georgia border and in, all of a sudden the energy app is showing green changed to orange, tanking efficiency
Same I95 but noticed a rougher road surface in that stretch, different asphalt
Then South Carolina and all the way north, normal again, green in the energy app

so just understand, road surface, non EV tires, wind, rain, etc all hit range negatively

So any recommendations for tires that are more efficient and quieter than stock? I have the stock A/Ts and was going to go for the Michelins before I saw that they’re so much less efficient. Trying to select a new set before my road trip next month. I always drive in Mad Max and get 470 on average.

I'll post on here my results with the hankooks after my trip at the end of the month. Check back the first week of June and I will post my results, maybe with photos? Idk everytime I try and post photos it just stops at starting the upload so I can't promise tessie pictures.

Defenders for over 15K miles. I noticed no difference in noise from OEM. I drive Hurry/Mad Max, carry the spare, and getting 450. Only a little up. The tires perform, last much longer, and they look good. As previously mentioned, almost a year ago we hydroplaned with the OEM Pirelli tires. There may have been something slick under the puddle, as it looks like a car had just spun onto the shoulder, facing us, before we hydroplaned - which was very scary. I'll attach video.

Here are my Pirelli’s after 9k miles of street driving on my cyberbeast. They were completely roached. Needless to say I would never get them again. The Goodyear AT OEM tires are wearing much better and don’t seem to reduce range and are no louder. And they happen to look the best of all the available tires.

Just got the hankooks put on and I live in NE so it's pretty flat and low wind today. Took almost the exact same route there as I did coming back in FSD standard both ways. On the way there tessie said I used 371wh/mi with average speed of 33 mph while having a net -33 ft of elevation change. Otw back, I had the tonneau cover open since I wanted to save the michelin tires, and tessie says 33 mph avg and only used 310 wh/mi with a +33ft of elevation change. So far, it's looking like a 20% difference between the tires. But it is still really early to tell and I will find out at the end of the month during my road trip.

I would not recommend staying with the OEM tires... They are junk, you will won't get much life out of them. Honestly I feel most other options will be an improvement, sure may get a little range loss, but nothing substatinal enough to really matter.

Just finished my first leg of my 1500 mile road trip and the hankook tires appear to make a difference under 70 mph compared the michelin tires. At 67-70mph I was typically getting high 300s to low 400s wh/mi where the michelins would typically have me at high 400s. 77-83 (80 mph speed limit here) I have been sitting at high 400s low 500s, and I dont have any data for the michelins at this speed since I only drove those on freeways that had a speed limit of 70 mph. Based off my anecdotal evidence, it is showing about 20-30% better range at <70mph speeds, above that wind resistance makes tire friction negligible. I was having to drive on hurry or mad max here though because FSD wont actually do 80 mph. Mad max would only so 77 mph in an 80 mph zone unless it went to pass someone.
