I agree with the gentleman above that this should still be an arrestable offense right now. Clearly there are other road users around too that didn’t consent to being part of this dumb experiment.
If you buckle your seatbelt behind your back that only affects your safety even though arguably also the future possible jail time of anyone you happen to be in accident with.
This endangers the lives of everyone else near you as well.

FSD has shocked me in the latest update in how humanin it drives.
- responding to emergency vehicles - fantastic
-responding to anomalies in the road - wonderful.
-pothole aversion - shockingly well.
-object recognition - wow

Between my 2018 P3D and my Cybertruck I have over 100K miles of FSD since inception and have watched it
- from birth to now
- from the bouncing between lane lines till now
- from the advancement of summon - etc.

And its phenomenal.

However - it appears that FSD has surpassed the hardware/physical hurdles. If there is ANY type of physical issue - FSD is not available. Tesla needs to work on FSD being available while experiencing issues - like humans have to.
-snow
-ice
-fog
-rain
-blocked cameras ( internal or external)
-sun glare
-turn signal / headlight /tail light out
-towing
-parking lots
-upset stomach / diarrhea

anything broken - and FSD is worthless.

Everything has to be perfect for FSD to work. When i drive myself (real self driving) it can all be broken and i can still function. - maybe not with the diarrhea part.

Well, I’m shocked if the above photo is real, there are no words. Not sure how that would happen since the camera inside tracks your face. Perhaps in the future, the person that sits in the so-called driver seat will have to wear a health monitor to see if they’re awake or drowsing off and going to sleep and it’ll give them a shock if they start to rows off my Lincoln car always shook the steering wheel and said maybe I need a cup of coffee. It was more nagging than the Tesla.

I dont know anything about the robotaxi.

However I don't understand how Tesla is making the robotaxi unless it only drives in perfect conditions. - where/when people won't need a robotaxi as much.

People need a robotaxi in the rain and snow and conditions that cripple the FSD on both my Tesla's.

Rain is usually ok, I have used FSD through downpours - key is RainX on windshield and front camera. It will slow down to a lower speed but keeps going. Snow/Ice buildup is another totally different issue, but it looks like Tesla has developed a nice camera solution for that.

I've not had a safety critical disengagement in many months. Destination parking/behavior is often where I disengage most. I think there are lots of reasons why FSD struggles at the end of the trip and not all of it is strictly an issue with FSD.
What I am most impressed by is the ability to see and avoid deer. I spend a ton of time in rural Idaho and in the evenings the Mule deer can damn near pave the road. FSD sees them often in poor lighting before my eyes can make them out in the distance. I've even had a case recently mid day where a deer came out of the brush along side the road at a full run when I was going 52 MPH. Car was in full brake before I even realized there was a deer present, and I have zero doubt I'd have plastered it if driving manually.

I guess this is a good place to put this.

I got a crazy red hands takeover today. Out of the blue. Was on fsd like normal. Then suddenly red hands! I haven't seen the red hands in what feels like forever.

FSD refused to start again. I went to a parking lot and tried the screen reboot. Still not working. Went into service mode and something was wrong with the left camera. I reset the DAS. Still no left camera.

I drove further myself to the destination. When I pulled up the camera feed left camera was blank.

Went inside the restaurant and the truck went to sleep. When I came back the camera was working again and fsd was alive! Very strange glitch or something.

For instance, at a destination yesterday it wanted to park in a parking garage, but the destination didn't have one and it took me down an alley that had no parking in it and passed the destination. you’re absolutely right, some of it has to be the map info. That said, mine sometimes still makes some crazy parking decisions even when it knows it’s a parking lot and exactly what spaces are open.

No.. Was with family on a major Chicago highway, randomly decides to attempt to take an exit that was not there. Literally 4 lane highway, right turn signal turns on and is attempting to veer off over a solid white line onto the shoulder. Took control after that, but I did rengage FSD, sent report..

So ultimately, not there yet, my eyes will forever be on the road, especially with wife and kids in the car.

This happened to me just today, and I grabbed the yoke and took control, thinking, "WTF is this thing doing, this makes no sense."

Then an ambulance whizzed by - lights on, siren off.

Got me wondering how many people feel that FSD is good enough that “supervised” is really only a formality now.
What do you think? Would you be willing to take your eyes completely off the road as it stands now if liability wasn’t a concern? Would you trust your life and your family’s life to it?

I would. But it wouldn’t get to destination and park properly in 80%+ of my drives. Reliance on bad mapping and elimination of speed limit reading remains a real hurdle. I think that Tesla can get there with almost any driving scenario, is almost there now, but I really don’t know what they can do about gated communities and bad google/TomTom data.

I’ve tried editing Google Maps and have editor status. It sort of worked for our gated Florida community, where the shortest way in is a chained and locked gate, and the only correct way in is a large front entrance circle a block further down. For a while it worked okay (by my edit blocking off the side road in edited Google Maps), but now both of our Teslas insist on going the wrong way and simply giving up. This requires an intervention in every drive. And assuming it gets navigation right, what would it do to open the gate? It currently waits paitiently while we use our MyQ app or Community app to open it up, but in unsupervised/robotaxi mode it would sit there forever without a clue. And how about how it handles restaurant and pharmacy drive-throughs? Not at all.

How does Waymo deal with this? These aren’t edge cases, and for actual unsupervised FSD to work, must be answered. From Ai on the Waymo questions:

“The vehicle will drop you off at a designated street-side access point, requiring you to walk the rest of the way or meet the car at the gate.

Gated Communities
Waymo vehicles operate strictly within their highly detailed operational design domain and do not have built-in systems to communicate with neighborhood call boxes, gate codes, or security guards.

I doubt the above solutions will work for 90% of drivers - I therefore have at least two interventions per day - one due to FSD trying to park at Starbucks instead of using the drive-through, and one to get to the correct gate at our community. These seem to me to be nearly insurmountable issues - but I never bet against Tesla given how good it is now. My lizard brain just can’t come up with solutions for these issues.
