Exactly!! Tesla is running an algorithm to optimize the CT price and determine if they can make money at that price. My guess is that the $60K DMAWD (it is what Tesla calls it on the website - Dual Motor AWD) is a break even price point. If they can sell enough trucks at this price, efforts to reduce the cost of manufacture will yield profit. If they cannot sell trucks at cost, there is no point in continuing production and would make more sense to refactor the design to a full size SUV.
Maybe so, but remember, the Tesla website currently calls it the $70K DMAWD (or to be more precise, the $69,990 DMAWD, but that's just a $10 difference). Tesla did offer them for $60K, but only briefly.

SS metal body was a production mistake. CT if redesigned for a lower $ will not be SS metal body.
I like the design of the Tesla Cyber Cab where the plastic body is color of the plastic.
Mini CT
Colored Plastic Body Mini-CT will save$ billions in production costs. And be a big big+ on environmental problem elimination of paint operations.
Mini CT would be a big seller for if Tesla can get the cost down to $35-$40 thousand.

As a longtime model S owner and seeing the iterative, constant changes, it doesn’t bode well for cyber.
Enjoy it and take care of it, may be a few year run and off to something else for Tesla :/

The extrerior metal is what drew me to get the CT. If it didn’t have that I wouldn’t have gotten it.

Stainless steel makes perfect sense for a work truck. I had a Saturn, and my favorite feature was the plastic body panels, but I cannot imagine a plastic bodies work truck would be well recieved.

This isn't a crazy idea; the forthcoming Slate EV pickup will have a gray plastic body and no paint options for exactly those reasons. If you want colors other than gray, it's designed to be easily wrapped. Cost is supposedly <$30,000 (we'll see).

I found it interesting that in Q4 2025, 18% of the Cybertruck sales were to SpaceX. 1,279 Cybertrucks in total. Its clear Elon doesnt want it to be a failure, hopefully he has more companies to keep buying them.

The Slate approach here is 180-degrees different from the Cybertruck approach.

The Cybertruck has stainless steel body panels, which are more expensive than painted steel or aluminum, but also more durable. In theory, they are unlikely to get damaged, so you may never need to replace them.

In contrast, the Slate has plastic body panels that are probably less durable than the typical painted steel or aluminum -- but also cheaper. The plastic may not hold up as well as metal -- but in theory, you can replace it cheaply and easily.

And maybe that makes a plastic-bodied work truck viable. Sure, "high-cost/lasts forever" is a viable option for a work tool, but maybe "low-cost/easily replaced when worn out" can work too.

My guess is the CT business case requires 100,000 CT's sales per year to generate enough cash flow to keep the truck line operational and interesting to Tesla (Musk). Three ways to get there - get the pricing right, introduce a CT-based SUV, and expand sales outside of US/CAN (I know, they sell to some select markets), but gotta make it available in China and Europe, despite regulatory challenges.

China and Europe are Tesla's biggest markets, along with US/Canada. But even if Tesla could overcome the regulatory hurdles, the Cybertruck probably wouldn't sell well in those markets. There is little "pickup culture" in China or Europe, and few sales of full-sized vehicles (like the CT). The pickups that do sell are primarily mid-sized trucks used commercially.

The F-150 is available in China and Europe, but it's only an expensive niche vehicle. The CT would be even more niche.

Discontinuing the Cybertruck would be stupid. If it’s not selling now, it’s because people aren’t sure that it’s a “real” truck. But I think it will catch on as people see the capability for themselves.
That being said, Tesla needs to solve some problems that interfere with it being used as a regular truck, such as the rearview camera not working when the tailgate is down.

Telsa has already stopped selling Cybertrucks for $59,990. The lowest-priced current CT model, the standard "Dual Motor AWD", now starts at $69,990.
But we have no clue how many preorders for that they got. I honestly don’t think it’s a lot.
Discontinuing the Cybertruck and converting it to a full size SUV/cargo truck would make a lot of sense.
If it costs the same as Cybertruck it also won’t sell well. If it’s “cyber” at all, it will have the same hate Cybertruck has. If they made a normal truck/suv starting at $50k it would sell really well.

There is little "pickup culture" in China or Europe, and few sales of full-sized vehicles (like the CT). The pickups that do sell are primarily mid-sized trucks used commercially.
Another issue with China/Europe sales is the current tariff situation. It's become difficult to sell American-made vehicles (like the Cybertruck) in markets like China, Europe, and even Canada because of recently imposed retaliatory tariffs. That's probably one of the factors that led to the discontinuation of the American-made Model S and Model X -- they now cost too much overseas, and the export markets dried up.

The Cybertruck can still be ordered in Canada, but it now starts at $139,990 (in Canadian dollars) for a Premium AWD. That converts to about $100,275 (in US dollars), or about $20,000 more than the starting price on the US side of the border. There's a similar $20,000 markup on Canadian Cyberbeasts.

Canadian Tesla stores can avoid tariffs on the Model 3 and Model Y by getting inventory from the Tesla factories in China or Germany (instead of Fremont or Austin). But there are no non-American sources for the CT.
