Do you guys know why the windshield flexes on the Cybertruck?

Does it use a different material the other car/truck windshield?

I'm surprise it didn't crack/break, it's stronger than I thought!

I think it's normal, so I kept walking on it, and it seems OKAY:

Major Credit to the video that gave me the courage to try it out:

Thanks!

I guess my only question is... Why, though? Clicks, attention? I may never understand humans....

The windshield flexes because it's nearly flat, but not quite. If it was completely flat it would flex in and out on the road while driving and that would be annoying. The slight curve gives it rigidity and some structure.

No this isn't the only windshield that can flex, just about any flat laminated glass does this. Tempered glass can't flex and is made to shatter relatively easily in most applications of it.

I think it's incredibly awesome to have a truck that can take this type of abuse.
To be fully transparent, it also makes for interesting content creation for social media.

Thanks so much for your insight about glass! I did a bit more research to dig into it, this is so interesting, I never knew that glass has a "deformation" tolerance where it is "elastic" and undamaged from flexing.

Thanks again for sharing your knowledge, Trevor!

It's definitely tough stuff! Normal windshields, especially that huge, can't handle a human walking on it.

Oh. Thanks!! This is good to know, that this is not a “standard” windshield glass. Because when I meet people at tesla meet ups, I want to let them know interesting facts about the Cybertruck :)

now I can demonstrate and talk about how strong the windshield is: with confidence! Thanks again for the info! ???

I used my Cybertruck in a photoshoot, and the roof glass was flexing as the model was doing poses.

A broad smile disguised my mild panic ?
haha. Glad that both the model and your Cybertruck are okay. :)

would love to see that nerve wrecking photo, if you are willing to share! ?

I’ll talk to the photographer.

There’s a story (urban legend?) about a guy who worked in a high-rise, and would regularly throw himself against a window to show how safe it was.

…Until it wasn’t. He probably shouldn’t have picked the same window every time.

I’d suggest demonstrating Cybertruck toughness by hitting the door with a hammer.

That urban legend gives me goosebumps. I may start testing the cyberhammer on the door! ??

if the glass fails… it won’t be too bad (safety wise), it will most likely crack instead of doing this to me:

I found the urban legend:

Great! Now after spending 100k on a vehicle I have to worry about A-holes trying to mimic influencers stomping on my windshield!

Thanks a lot!
