With most cars PPF seems to be justified in terms of value. But cybertruck is scratch and ding proof so is PPF really worth it in this case or is vinyl just as good for cheaper?

Depends if you keep your truck in a garage or if it is exposed to the elements. PPF will hold up well outdoors while vinyl does not.

It’ll be garaged. Seems like PPF is almost double the cost of vinyl and I figure if the vinyl wears out in 5-7 years, I can just charge the color at that time and make it feel fresh.

VInyl vs PPF is always a huge debate. IMO, I would do PPF over vinyl, especially with how flat the front end of this truck is. The wrap will not hold up to as much abuse as the PPF would.

The way I suggest to customers, is that if you are planning on changing the wrap color in about a year or 2, then vinyl will be just fine. If you are looking for longevity out of it, stick with PPF!

Only reason to go Vinyl > PPF is if you wanna change colors every 3 years for the heck of it.

(quoted for me so may vary unless DIY)
Vinyl is like 3k install
PPF is like 6k install

How hard is DIY on the CT?’ The videos on YouTube indicates it’s easy but I think it’s still hard.

As mentioned here, vinyl will not last as long. It is much thinner than PPF.

From my experience in Arizona, roadrash from rocks kicked up will tear vinyl. You either have to cover the vinyl with clear PPF or better yet, wrap with colored PPF.

I wrapped my CT in pearl white PPF and added a ceramic coating specifically for PPF and absolutely love it. It looks and feels like a superior paint job due to the 8 mil thickness and the deepness of the color that you simply can’t get in a vinyl sticker, in my humble opinion!?

I wound up doing both, still not finished with the work and will post a more detailed view on what we did when complete. Went with vinyl on the base then did clear PPF over all of the black and front of car.

Any thoughts about the TESLA vinyl wrap? It is claimed on the TESLA shop website that it is 2x the thickness of "traditional" wraps, self healing, and can be clay bar treated and can be covered with a ceramic protector - at additional cost of course.

I’ve been debating vinyl vs ppf for a while. Seems with vinyl it’s best to ceramic coat to avoid fingerprints etc. given vinyl plus ceramic gets pricey, it’s close to cost of just doing ppf which seems way more durable. Not worried about the truck, but about vinyl chipping.

is there any reason not to go with ppf?

After reading and watching a bunch of videos on this debate, I've decided to go vinyl for 3 reasons:

1. Even though PPF provides longer life (~10 years) and I hope to keep the CT for close to that long, I imagine wanting to change the look before that. I would rather spend the price of PPF over a couple of look iterations in those 10 years.

2. My CT will be garaged and I don't plan on doing offroading where it will be exposed to a lot of blasts.

3. As of today, PPF provides a bunch of colors. But the vinyl options are far more and I want to get creative once I pull the trigger.

We've observed that vinyl wraps made of PVC don't last as long as paint protection films (PPF). After just one year, there's a noticeable difference in the finish between the two materials. If you want your car to look great after a year, I highly recommend using PPF for color changes.

Regarding cost, I'm not sure why it's almost double. We only charge $1,000 more for PPF because of the material cost. Additionally, we recommend ceramic coating for vinyl wraps to protect against UV damage, which brings the total cost closer to that of PPF.

With our promo of $300 for the Cybertruck forum members the price for wraps and our ppf is almost identical.
