So I need to know.... Do you regret spending the extra $20K??!! :D
Nope. I wanted the powershare and fsd anyway so the 20 markup is really about a 5k get it earlier fee for me. Now is great time to get fsd and I will get powershare installed soon in the hurricane state of Florida and the truck can go through 2 feet of water. 1500 miles into an awd with no issues, knock on wood, and loving it. Ride is so smooth. The truck is roomy and comfortable and the steering is insane. It will ruin driving any other car for me. I haven't driven another car since I got it 5/3.

If FSD works as well on the Cybertruck, once it is released , as it does now on the Model 3, I won’t regret it, as $12K of the $20K is paying for that. Also included is charging and PowerShare hardware that I was planing to buy anyway. I would likely have ordered the optional interior color, wheels and tires, too.

The effective upcharge, for me, was around $3K or $4K, assuming I’m satisfied with FSD, and I won’t regret spending that to have the truck sooner instead of much later.

I had decided back in December that ordering a Foundation Series CT did not make sense for me.

An extra $20 for some badging, some trim and accessories that I didn't particularly want or could get for less from the aftermarket, FSD that seems like it will always be not-quite-ready, and the hardware needed to charge my truck and have my truck power my house (okay, THAT I WAS going to buy anyway). The cost of the FS CT makes it ineligible for the Federal incentive, to boot.

Then... I realized, along with many others that Tesla is not likely to sell non-FS Cybertrucks until the sales rate of FS is less that the production rate of Cybertrucks. That may not happen for a very long time and even then, every sale of a FS CT will delay the sales of a non-FS CT. This Foundation Series scheme could push the likely delivery date of a non-FS CT out to 2026 or later for me.

Then....... I got my email.

Now.............. I'm waiting for my VIN.

Eventually.............. I may decide the FSD is worth $12K ... maybe...
Wayne, How did things work out regarding the Federal Incentive, is your truck eligible? After reading your post about FS CT's not being eligible for the incentive prior to you taking delivery.

I did a little digging and could only find this confusing statement from Copilot:

The Foundation Series version of the Tesla Cybertruck is also known as the All-Wheel Drive (AWD) version1. According to the information available, this version of the Cybertruck does qualify for the $7,500 federal tax credit. However, there are a few important points to consider:

  1. Price Cap: The incentive is available only for pickup trucks with a price that does not exceed $80,000. The AWD version, with an estimated price of $79,990, falls just below the price cap2.
  2. Delivery Time: Tesla has stated that deliveries for the AWD version will only start in 2024. Therefore, if you purchase the vehicle in 2024, it should qualify for the tax credit.
  3. Changing Rules: The entire EV tax credit system is changing again in January 2024 when new rules related to battery materials sourced from China go into effect. Until then, it remains uncertain whether the Cybertruck and other all-electric vehicles will continue to be eligible for the full tax credits in 2024.
In summary, the Foundation Series version of the Cybertruck does qualify for the tax credit in 2024 based on the current information. However, due to the changing rules and regulations, it’s recommended to keep an eye on any updates to ensure eligibility.

This is confusing not knowing if the accessories count towards the price cap. Furthermore, it'd be interesting to know if the extra cost for "accessories" count toward vehicle registration tax, which here in Minnesota is 1.25% Regards, - Phil-

the most awesome thing that could happen is if FOUNDATIONS OWNERS got fsd with $0 monthly fees that would help maintain some value into the depreciation

No, the AWD Foundation Series price doesn’t break out separately priced option so the vehicle’s price is above the $80K cap and therefore not eligible for the the credit. Assuming the rules for the credit remain the same, once the base AWD becomes available - and its price remains below $80 - the credit will be applied.

One can dream and hope. My buddy’s model 3 purchase came with 10,000 charging miles …. You would imagine the cyber truck foundation would have something this serious …. Everyone keeps talking about a $2500 credit I got nothing can’t be me buy a spare tire.

Thanks Wayne. Makes the decision much easier...No FS for me...and no upgrades when AWD is available, which likely will take a dent out of FSD sales.

As I understand it, the credit is based on the price of the vehicle, not including options. The FS has no separately priced options, but the future non-FS will, and one option will be FSD.

I think the above is correct; if not, please chime in, more experienced Tesla owners!

Yesterday, I visited a Tesla showroom in Minneapolis and had an enlightening conversation with a salesperson. Here are my key takeaways:
  1. Rebates and Battery Qualification:
    • Currently, no Cybertruck qualifies for the federal rebate due to battery-related issues, not because it exceeds the $80,000 threshold.
    • However, according to this Reuters article, More EVs lose US tax credits including Tesla, Nissan, GM vehicles | Reuters Tesla expects the Cybertruck to become eligible for the rebate later in 2024.
    • Interestingly, adding Full Self-Driving (FSD) won’t affect the All-Wheel Drive (AWD) Cybertruck’s eligibility once the battery issue is resolved.
  2. Ordering and Delivery:
    • The invitation to order the Founders Series (FS) Cybertruck does expire.
    • New orders for the Cybertruck will have an estimated delivery by the end of 2025, after existing reservation holders receive theirs.
    • Keep in mind that Tesla’s delivery timelines are subject to change, so take this information with a grain of salt.
Getting my invitation has revived my enthusiasm for the truck, and tested my patience, however for me I’m sticking to my budget of $95 out the door.
