It will be very interesting to see what happens after January 1st when the tax credit shifts to the point of sale rebate process and what position Tesla takes via it's website disclosures.

Regardless of the process to apply the credit at point of sale, there will still be a process to claim the credit via the "traditional" method on your return because a taxpayer may not know at the time of purchase of a vehicle if they will be under the AGI threshold to be eligible for the credit and thus may not want to take the credit at point of sale (as they will be penalized if they end up over the limit at year end).

you’re confusing two different things. The question is about whether the truck qualifies, not the individual’s tax situation by YE.

regarding whether the truck qualifies, that will be determined and approved/denied by IRS at the time of sale.

separate matter of whether at YE the individual remains eligible for income reasons and possibly has to return the $7,500 for busting income cap.

I know I read somewhere that starting next year, the $7500 point of sale tax credit should be provided in full, regardless of the buyers income (unless the max income threshold is exceeded, I presume) and found this CNBC article:

“Further, consumers would be eligible for the tax break regardless of their tax burden, which isn’t the case now. Currently, since the tax credit is non-refundable, buyers only qualify for any of the credit if they have a federal tax liability — a policy that tends to dilute the benefit for households with relatively low incomes, or exclude some entirely.”

Live in AZ, no VIN, no delivery date and I stood on hold to ask a employee about delivery time and they had no idea…January-March stated online

Officially, it’s 1000. I wouldn’t be surprised if it lasts until end Q1 2024, though.

Can you give any insight as to whether the Foundation Series cap is still 1,000 units?
