I've already taken delivery of my Beast in May. When I placed my order and paid for the truck at delivery, I was offered the Powershare equipment and a $4,000 installation credit. I have already been approved by Tesla for the installation months before I picked up the truck. It also says in my Powershare equipment survey approval email from Tesla, I get the $4,000 installation credit. I filled out the Qmerit survey, which I was never told by Tesla to do until I called customer service 2 days ago. They sent back this email below
My question now is. Is this $2500 voucher going to completely cover the equipment and tax like I was promised? And no way I'm letting them hook this equipment up right next to my electrical meter and get $4,000 from Tesla. I'm gonna have them run a wire 200 feet to my detached garage to install the Universal wall connector. Should be no problem for $4,000. Yes I know they are claiming it has to be within 20 feet. Thats robbery and not gonna happen on my dime lol.

Good afternoon Jason,

Thank you for your interest in installation services through Qmerit.

Tesla recently updated the process by which Foundation Series Cybertruck customers receive charging equipment, installation quotes, and installation credits. Regarding these changes, below are answers to some Frequently Asked Questions:

How do I request my Powershare equipment?
  1. Tesla will email you a $2500 Tesla Shop voucher. The voucher can be used for either a single purchase in the Tesla Shop, which may include various items up to the voucher value, or toward the cost of your Powershare Home Backup equipment.
  2. Questions about the $2500 Tesla Shop voucher must be directed to Tesla. Qmerit cannot supply a shop voucher nor provide information about Tesla Shop voucher eligibility.
  3. For more information, visit the Tesla Powershare Support page.

How do I receive installation credit?
Certain customers may be eligible for a Powershare Installation credit, provided by Tesla.
  1. To receive the installation credit, Tesla must provide an authorization to Qmerit.
  2. Currently, Qmerit is awaiting Tesla’s authorization of customers who are eligible for the installation credit.
  3. As soon as Tesla verifies authorization to Qmerit, you’ll receive an email from Qmerit with next steps to proceed.
How do I receive an installation quote?
After completing the online assessment, Qmerit will connect you with a local, Certified Installer for an installation quote.
  1. Within three days, you will receive an email with the name and contact information of the Certified Installer assigned to your project.
  2. Your certified installer will contact you to arrange a site assessment, obtain additional information about your project, and provide a quote.
Please note that due to high demand, some projects may experience a slight delay in connection to a Certified Installer. We apologize for any inconvenience.

If you have any questions or concerns related to your installation project, please contact me directly. We look forward to serving you!

Best,

The $2,500 covers the UWC and Gateway and Tesla has added this combo to the store (not sure on sales tax, but since this is really part of the vehicle purchase, it seens it should be covered for most areas).

The 20 foot criteria is from the meter or the garage. " Park on your property within 20 feet of your garage or electrical service (main) panel"
https://www.tesla.com/support/powershare#eligibility-requirements

My parking spot will be in the detached garage so 30 feet to that then 3 bays over.

I don’t see 20 feet being worth $4,000. I’m gonna need a break down and should be in line with local electric companies rates. And I already paid tax on this equipment when I picked my truck up and paid $20k extra and taxes on that. Not paying taxes again. ?

I was supoorting you having it installed in the detached garage.

I think 20 feet is the effective length of the Wall Connector. 20 feet from garage can be a long distance depending where the panel and garage are relative to each other.

Gateway installation requires pulling the meter and refeeding the main panel. Automatic Powershare functionality may require a secondary panel and some loads moved.

There's a lot more to it than just adding a Wall Connector.

I talked with our local installation company already. He didn’t say there is any issue with installing the wall connector in the detached garage. It’s prob more like 150 feet from where they would put the gateway by my meter.

Cool. I was trying to indicate the setup was fine because it sounded like maybe you thought they would reject it:

20' or 200' its NBD
Just buy / make a 180' cable. Should cost around $50-$75 for the cable and plugs.
so
Let them do the 20' and use your buy / make 180' cable.
and
IR drop if any is easy to adjust when you buy / make the 180' cable.
The issue is whether that 180 feet of cable is covered by our $4k installation credit, or we pay it out of pocket.
If I wanted to pay, it would already be installed.

Is was never a guaranteed $4k though. It was up to $4k towards installation.
$4,000 was built into the price. I see their point. I’m just saying I want $4,000 worth of work.

Oh, I get it also, but that wasn't the offer (and a direct cash payment would annoy the loan originator even more than the equipment credit).
At that point, just make Foundation $16k.

My understanding (I'm in process now) is that Tesla selects an installer that's trained in PowerShare installs, and sends the v3 gateway and universal power wall to the installer. They do the install, and the cost of the install varies depending on the specifics of your home and electrical system. It's not just the cost of a cable run to the wall charger, it's the cost of rewiring your home power so that your home power is managed through the gateway so that either the grid or the cybertruck can power the home, which involves planning, approvals, inspection, etc. If you just want to charge the Cybertruck and not do PowerShare, it's simpler.
