If we remove this as a contention it boils down to range versus acceleration.
And acceleration is linked to power. In this case 600 vs 850. Sort of like F-150s with the 450 hp fwin turbo 3.5L Ecotech V6 vs 700 hp supercharged 5.2L V8.

AWD and Beast are both great.

You've got to travel quite a ways out of Georgia before you hit areas without a Supercharger every 100 miles. Even Waycross is only 75 miles from a Supercharger. We've been from the Great Lakes to the Florida Keys and out toward Branson with no issues. It is that area out there near and beyond Branson that's becomes a stretch, but not a problem.

Recent trip For Atlanta to Dayton Oh, only two 15 minutes stops on the way up, mostly for the bladder.
Good info. Thanks!

I take friends for that 0-60 ride in my Tesla 3! I describe it like your brain cannot process what you are passing as fast as you are traveling! Love it-so had no choice but to order the Beast. Just wish I wasn’t going to miss another summer of Beach driving in the Hamptons while I wait…and wait…

Damn if you think that's fast you need to drive in a Beast. It's much, much faster than the AWD. I drove an AWD few months back and it's not even comparable.

My recommendation would actually be to *not* drive the Beast, because your perception of the AWD would be tainted forever so don't ruin it for yourself lol

I doubt this is true, I can almost guarantee the difference is not as much as beast owners on here claim. The only people obsessed with the beast are beast owners. I’ve read articles and seen many videos where the best barely out paces the awd. In the early days I saw a beast with the same software as an awd which ran the same times as an awd and Tesla had to update it to “beast” software to make it run faster. That leads me to believe the 0-60 reports are mostly software based, which can be changed in the future.

Either way I’ll end up driving a beast regularly in the future anyway. My sister ordered a beast the same week I ordered my AWD and I’ve had my car for weeks while she has to wait until the end of the year for hers.

It's a big difference, trust me.

Have you been in a vehicle that does 0-60 in 2.6 seconds before?

The part throttle power when normally accelerating is a huge difference over the AWD as well. There's just so much torque in the triple motor vs dual motors it's extremely noticable, not even accelerating full throttle.

You are totally missing the point.

The point is not that the Beast is faster. It's that for the vast majority of people, the AWD is stupidly fast.

Going faster than the AWD really isn't something that should be attempted on city streets.
Going as fast as the AWD really isn't something that should be attempted on city streets either.

The roadster is going to make the Beast look like an AWD.

So I received my truck about a week ago and have been driving it in "chill" mode this entire time. Tonight a passenger wanted to see how fast it was so I decided to put it in sport to test. I didn't expect much because I know mine was the slower truck, but this thing was brutal, it literally threw us back in our seats and my passenger lost grip of her phone and it landed on the back seat.

I've driven 4 second 0-60 cars before and this felt way faster than any of them. Is Tesla under reporting the dual motor 0-60 to sell more beasts? It feels so unsafe to have that much speed on public roads, I can't imagine the beast being much faster than that. As it is I'm probably never putting my truck in sport mode again.
Your “sport” mode is the beast’s “chill” mode lol.

There is always a faster vehicle.

I traded in a Model S Plaid for...an AWD Cybertruck.

But what about the mythical 2.6 second 0-60mph Cyberbeast? It would still be quite a few ticks slower than the Model S Plaid which, in and of itself, is all but useless power on public roads. Sure, you can light it up at a stoplight - for about a second and a half before you reach the speed limit, and often times less than that. Can most people tell the difference between hammering it for 1.5 seconds and 2.4 seconds? Honestly, no. Heck, with the Plaid I could rarely even get the go pedal to the floor before I was trying to slow down. As a result, I ended up driving the Plaid in Sport mode instead of Plaid mode almost all the time.

Back to the Cybertruck...

I'd contend the AWD Cybertruck in Sport mode feels just about as quick as the Model S Plaid in Sport mode. That isn't to say the Beast isn't objectively quicker, it absolutely is. But outside of a drag strip, there is really no difference in acceleration on public roads between the AWD and the Beast. At least not in my book.

If you're not going perfectly straight, the AWD is objectively lighter. Less mass = better handling.

If you run off-road at all, the AWD has true mechanical lockers front and rear.

Be happy with whatever you pick, but this Model S Plaid owner is quite happy with his more agile, lighter, AWD that still has all the kick necessary and then some for public roads while providing extra functionality (less weight, lockers) if the roads get rough or the weather turns.

Oh, and better efficiency = more range.

That's cool, you're happy with the AWD.

The Beast was made for people who want the faster vehicle. That's it. If you're happy with the slow version, cool... I wouldn't be happy with it though..but does that matter?

That's why they make different versions. It's also why there's Motel 6 and a Ritz-Carlton out there, and Sirloin steaks and Filet Mignons.

The guys picking the AWD will likely be totally happy and fine with eating a sirloin steak and sleeping at Motel 6. They'll argue it's a better value, and no one "needs" to spend more to stay at Ritz Carlton and that a sirloin steak is plenty tasty too.

That's fine! As long as you're happy. But I'll take my filet mignon medium rare, and pay the extra to book a nice hotel, while the valet parks my Beast.... And guess what... We'll all be happy we got what we wanted and what makes us happy.

The thing that is impressive for me is not really the 0-60 time as much as it is the distance to do so.
You can measure it in car lengths.
Averaging 30 mph (and if my math is correct) yields 44 ft per second. That's 170 ft for the AWD Cybertruck! Barely over a half football field! 0.03 miles.

Of coursing stopping distance is your enemy. (126 ft 60-0 for Cybertruck)

Lol you beast guys are so funny, you’re the ones that keep insulting the awd. And let’s be real comparing the awd to beast is like comparing the ritz and Waldorf ….not motel 6.

Also as customary with Tesla both cars will be outdated in two years, which is about the time I go between vehicles changes. So I get to enjoy 6 month to a year of extra driving with my awd.

If your income level allows it, then good for you.

But if you don't try that sirloin steak periodically, then all you'll do is complain about the Filet Mignon.

As an AWD owner, I'm happy to know that if I want more, that it is available.

As a Beast owner, if you want more, you are unhappily stuck where you are. No where up to go!
And you really can't appreciate what the Beast provides.

BTW, how many hours do you spend at the track each week?

Whole lot of coping and subtle passive aggressive baiting in this thread.

Guys it’s a 50% increase in acceleration. That’s massive. You don’t need to be flooring it to feel that difference. You don’t need to be at the track to get the benefit of/feel the 50% difference in daily driving. I don’t get why there’s any back and forth here about the value of that. Obviously it’s the better trim and more than worth it for those who can afford it considering that the range extender will make the Beast the best of both worlds when it’s released.
