Short of reminding every single front seat passenger how to properly open the door, so they don't use the emergency door handle that is in the most CONVENIENT PLACE EVER to use. Has anyone found a solution or sticker or something to place on this?

It's honestly in the best place for an actual door handle, which is the worst place to put an emergency door handle xD
My dad is the worst about it because that's how his Cali T door handle is .-.

Same happens in my M3P while ubering. Was hoping they moved it in the truck but doesn’t would like it.

Easiest solution is roll down the window an inch or two and let them do it. For them to sit in the back, apply double sided tape so they feels the sticky when grabbing it, step that up with a few thumb tacks. And lasty take them in for an amputation of the right hand.

no sticker will work, no one reads the manual little lone to exit a car, they barely listen to the driver say , at the top of the handle…. Oh this … nope.

I’ve thought about taking off the cable, but that would be my luck to need that door some day.

karma always gets me

Here is what I did to eliminate people accidentally using the emergency open lever on my CT.

I measured the size and shape of the cavity under level and cut a block of medium firm black foam to slightly overfill it.

Then I tore a short length of gaffers' tape (using the real stuff that is used in entertainment productions) run from the bottom of lever, across the top of the lever and completely under the foam, compressing the foam so that it completely fills the space. (It took mare time to come up with that sentence than it did to accomplish that task!).

The tape is almost undetectable unless you look carefully and the difference in texture is actually a good thing, alerting the passenger that something is different about that area. The foam/tape prevents a finger from getting directly under the lever and the tape prevents the lever from being easily activated while still allowing activation with a strong pressure against the bottom of the foam. The fix would be more attractive in the photos if I had cut the tape instead of tearing, but I'm not that OCD...

Here are some photos to help visualize the end result. I adjusted the photo contrast to make the tape more easily seen. In real life it is much less obvious. The fix would be more attractive in the photos if I had cut the tape instead of tearing, but I'm not that OCD...

Ooo I like the idea with the foam, I was thinking about the tape idea, but hadn't thought about putting foam in there to prevent them from easily sliding their hands in.

Wonder if someone will make a 3D printed part for this xD

It has to be easily accessible in an emergency.

Until then, say, "use the button, please."

A firm lift will release the gaff tape (duct tape won’t release).

My special other has made it clear that exit instructions are no longer appreciated.

I also tried crinkled up aluminum foil over the release, since that was very effective in keeping the cats off of things. She was not amused.

They make little picture/icon/pictogram stickers that mount over the door buttons on my M3. I just point at it and the passenger gets it right away.

I had the same problem with a family member using the emergency release, I added some red tape and a warning label. So far, it's served it purpose.

What's wrong with using this emergency latch to open the door? Will it damage the door?

What's wrong with using this emergency latch to open the door? Will using it repeatedly damage the door?
