Just my input with very limited knowledge:

When I picked up my Truck I asked about this exact thing (in CA). I talked to a very nice higher-up dude in a full suit at the SC (I think he was the general manage of the SC). I wasn't making a big stink or anything, it's just who happened to approach at the moment. He explained that Tesla is not a car dealership, isn't licensed as one, and can't sell cars like one. They have to sell each and every car as a vehicle manufacturer direct to consumer. At least in CA, this means that rather than having a right to "inspect," you instead get the same perks that a dealership would get when they purchase a vehicle from a manufacturer: 7 days of no questions asked returns if any issues arise. This is how, apparently, dealerships do it when they make a purchase because they typical take shipments and can't be expected to be able to inspect every vehicle before it leaves the factory.

Disclaimer: I have absolutely NO experience in this beyond what I was told. So if someone here owns or is an insider on how dealerships work, I'd be interested to learn more about it.

I was allowed to inspect mine in Cleveland before making payment.

I have not picked mine up yet (still awaiting vin) but will probably have full payment wired days before I pick up. I plan to take lots of pictures of any deficiencies I can see inside and outside before I move the vehicle. The pictures along with the metadata time and location should help with any issues. This will be my first Tesla.

Opening up a service request in your first week usually seems to get them to handle things without much fuss as well, for those who are impatient.

At least from the stories on the forum.

I inspected mine, but really won't be anyone to tell the issues to, they will refer you to the app and tell you that you have 3 days/100 miles to report any delivery issues.

When I DID report these issues in the app, I made sure to notate "observed within 100 miles/3 days of delivery". My truck is in service now. They wanted to charge me $2572 for a new windshield but said bc I notated that it when I added it, they replaced windshield for free. Good luck!

Mine too which is why I’m trying to take as many precautions as I can.

Glad to help! Be sure to inspect your alcantara well, I had multiple scratch lines throughout the vehicle that required those parts to be replaced (ie- a pillar, over rear seats). I also had to have my passenger door panel replaced due to a strange discoloration they could not remove. Lastly, if they say 1 day, expect a week :)

$100k+ vehicle, I'LL be the one to mess it up haha

Yeah I plan to be very in depth about inspecting it as much as I can. I don’t care if I’m at the service center all day, I’m gonna make sure to detail every single thing I see bc I’m not giving this kind of money up for nothing other than mint condition or if they promise to remedy the issues for free!

If you received your wheel cover email, add that to the list... just in case. In my case, they said they aren't physically in yet, but- they would have easily overlooked those and my light bar if I would not have listed it. Ironically, it does list "accessory installation" in the progress, so--- maybe I will get a surprise.

Great point. Especially with them opening orders to everyone I definitely don’t want to be waiting for the light bar and wheel covers forever

Oh! How does it work now, then? Thx for the info
You have to ispect the vehicle before delivery. Once you accept its yours and have 2 days or 100 miles to report issues and they will schedule you for repairs.

They don't hold to the 2 days. I've had things fixed months after delivery.
