Do any of you have a Chinese mother-in-law? Then you might be able to help me. Mine has a crappy Mercedes Benz and she wants to replace it so I swooped in with my idea that if she wants a hybrid, she should get a Tesla. I left out the part that it's only electric and the gas would be if she wants to huff it.

Anyway my question to y'all is, what can you tell a Chinese mother-in-law about electric cars that would impress her? Key things here are that there are social mores and norms to take into account, lots of social validation that I can't speak to (I'm not Chinese) and real concerns that we all have experience with. I've got the real concerns covered. It's the social aspects that I don't. Also since I don't speak Cantonese, it's a challenge conveying my thoughts to her.

One thing that was mentioned in my discussion was to show that the screens can be in Chinese and that it can speak in Chinese. Anyone able to help me with screenshots? I'm suffering with her and without the sanctuary of my truck.

Explain to her how gas cars are not perfectly balanced like electric cars are, they have inbuilt imbalances that result in disharmony and internal conflict, they don't deliver power smoothly and harmoniously. That internal conflict is why engines and transmissions break down and are inherently unreliable. For this reason, Confucius would have only ridden in an EV, in order to minimize disharmony is his life.

Florida Chinese not the same as California comes. Here it's a lot more one upmanship. There's hesitation that her Chinese friends may not approve.

I think the app may have helped us. We pointed out that if there's an issue in the car, I can look into it from afar and schedule service that will bring the ranger to the house.

Red is a very popular color for many things in China including cars. Red means money and good luck.

RED. As a symbol of joy, celebration, vitality, success and good fortune, red is the luckiest color in Chinese culture. It's famously used in important events such as weddings and festivals like Chinese New Year.

Is it illegal to own a red car in China?
No, it's not illegal to own a red car in China. Most people prefer black and white, but there're also cars of silver, blue, red, grey, green, pink… any color you come up with, it's legal for a car.

Would anybody drive a red Mercedes? NO, just NO.

If your Chinese mother-in-law drove up in a red colored Cybertruck she would blow their minds.

If she is short in stature the Cybertruck could lower itself so she can more easily step out when it stops in front of her friends.

After stopping. before getting out of Cybertruck she could speak to her friends using the Cybertruck loud speakers.

In the area where I live in Australia, the Chinese love Tesla.

Also, tell your mother-in-law that most new cars sold in China today are electric.

Funny story. My mother-in-law can't hear anything bad that's said about China, even if it's actually said by the Chinese news media. It's like she's suddenly deaf.

Why not rent or test drive one for a day or two. Funny story (just happened a few weeks ago)
So, one of my managers had been talking with me about purchasing a new model y. Her sister has a 3 and told her not to by one because she had major issues with the service department. She goes and buys the new Toyota suv and spends $$$ on two tanks of gas a week driving to and from work. Now her sister goes and buys another Tesla model y and financed it at the low apr offered. So now she (manger) is totally pissed and now wanting to dump the Toyota for a Y! ??
