I wrote some comments. It is a very caustic conversation, but so are Electrek, Teslarati, and Tesla Owners Forum and those are supposedly people that like Tesla. I think that many Americans just swallow what their favorite 'news source' tells them. It is the easy way. Sad, but easy. So maybe they swallowed what the CNN Business guy was saying.

Some of the older people are used to the ol Cronkite days, where the personality giving you the news was a "household name", and there was no internet to refute anything. Unfortunately... in some homes, CNN houses their modern Cronkites (which is insulting to Cronkite), and they take everything as credible and refuse to verify anything themselves.

The thing about Walter Cronkite is that he didn't report opinions but facts. What changed with American mass media was when news anchors started injecting opinions into the news. Now it seems that every mass media has a noticable bias. But as someone else already noted, this wasn't CNN News but CNN Business and I am not sure anyone should take their views as news.

Agreed. Though, you know as well as I do... that's by design. People will not make the distinction between CNN and CNN Business.

What happened was that appearing unbiased became more important than the relative 'truth' - so we get articles with 'both sides' where you compare a misdemeanor with a felony as if they were the same.

It's a fact someone said 'blah', but that does not mean 'blah' is true. But somewhere in the 80s the legal obligation to make the reporters do the digging to find out more than who said what went away.

The click-driven, instant-feedback network TV and then internet has only made it worse. There's no profit in a reporter taking the time to figure out if a claim someone is making is true or not.

I have considered posting something made up about the truck on social media just to see if it gets picked up. I'm curious how much fact-checking outlets do before running a story.

Where/when I grew up (Michigan) there were ABC, NBC, and CBS, and they basically reported the same news. I do not recall opinions until after the 80s. My guess is that the internet helped bring it on.
