Came here to say exactly this and you beat me to it!
It is an eye opener to think that of the entire emerging fleet of cybertrucks, all - ALL - mishaps will be recorded by the cameras in fine detail.

I once mounted a channel iron rear bumper for a Wrangler using stacked valve springs on the bolts. Never really tested it under impact but it would have provided some degree of flex.
I had one of these sticking out of the back of my F150, I wonder how it would look on a CT. It is solid steel, it might save you from some damage in a rear end, or parking lot.

I just snapped a video of this from my phone on the Tesla screen. The actual footage from the USB stick is crystal Clear and it saved a much longer clip. This video made the liability question and decision take a day versus who knows how long… without it I would’ve insisted on a police report.

H.A., I was thinking about buying after market bumpers. My, albeit, non-expert , impression was that the bumpers don’t extend much beyond the edges of the panels. I’ve seen reports of low speed damage where the rear corners struck obstacles the bumper didn’t contact. In my own truck I’ve had concerns regarding other vehicles parallel parking and damaging the truck.

Naturally as you pointed out, I don’t want to transfer force of a minor collision in a way that cracks a casting and totals the truck.

I know you like to off-road your truck, do you think it might be better protected from saplings or other trail obstacles by a bumper of a different design?
No, a bumper of a different design would not be better than no extra bumper. The saplings do not hurt the truck (and no bumper could keep them totally away anyway).

I'm 61 years old and I don't understand the younger generations attempt to "protect" everything. My observation is they tend to just eventually throw away (or sell) the items they were spending a lot of money to protect in the first place. And if they sell them, it might be for less that the original cost to "protect" them in the first place. It makes no sense to me. It's almost as if things like phones and cars have become religious icons, more valuable than the truth itself, instead of just tools to use to improve peoples lives. ?‍♂

I was involved in a wreck with 007 causing almost identical damage. No front door damage though. Repair was 3 weeks and $12k. Because no structural damage occurred it was simple bolt off/bolt on repair. I didn't have a wrap on mine though. As long as you don't have to wait on parts like I did it may be a week for turn around.
You and James Bond crashed into each other??

Were you both in Cybertrucks?

I understand that H.A. And it peeves me too. The Honda motorcycle shop refused to change the tires on my bike when it was more than 10 years old. I never got that attitude from the BMW shop on the motorcycle I’ve ridden for 45 years. When I buy a vehicle I expect it to be durable. I’m wondering if some of the plastic on the cybertruck will endure the environment where I live for even five years.. I’ve seen that attitude defended on the forum by the claiming the parts are less expensive to replace. I know you can’t count on most manufactures to support their products for as long as I keep them. Here’s a picture of the GM vehicle I’ve driven for 44 years.

Update: truck goes in on the 11th to San Jose collision center. I had to argue with insurance to give me a rental before the service date but they eventually gave me one. Estimate is $15k plus cost to re-wrap. Hoping it’s not there too long. It’s been sleeping in my garage since the accident and I’m having FOMO.

I suppose bad Friday the 13th luck. This guy tried to make an illegal right turn into the shell station from the center lane, after turning out into the center lane illegally, right in front of me. Pretty significant damage to the front and driver quarter panel. Truck is driveable in medium height. In low the wheel smacks the sidewall when turning left. Sentry for the win here so there’s no question on fault.

Sad my poor truck is damaged and im very concerned about this going on the carfax report. Going to push for additional restitution for loss of value. Luckily im in the Bay Area and hopefully that helps with parts and timing for fix…

Yeah, see... They REALLY needed GAS!! I guess they don't have any other gas stations around...
