Battery pack prices are 20% lower today than they were in 2019.
Hot-rolled Coiled Steel was $703 / ton on April 1, 2019 and was $696 / ton on Friday.
I think this is less about inflation than about someone's cost model being a bit too optimistic...

¯\_(ツ)_/¯
I guess with steel and batteries you could make your own.

Oh right, R&D and production. Wages have gone up for engineers, materials scientists, and other skilled resources necessary to take raw materials and do something productive with them.

Oh, and there 40,000 new Supercharger connectors since 2019 (this graph misses the latest report of ~62,000). https://www.statista.com/statistics/1290490/tesla-quarterly-supercharger-volume-worldwide/

Were steer-by-wire, heavy duty air suspension, amazing handling and efficiency, and a charging network nearly 3x the size necessary?

Maybe not for you, in that case there is the F150 Lightning.

This is the best car I’ve ever owned, it’s my 2nd. Elon put out a low price to scare legacy automakers and get them off their ass. The CT was never meant for the masses, only those who saw the future and knew this car would attention everywhere you go. We love the attention.

Even at 79,990. plus FSD runs 93,000 with taxs and delivery. Not priced for the average Joe ~
And it’s not your average Joe who can just walk into their tag office and drop the payment of excise tax of $5,000 just to put a license plate on the vehicle.

But you should compare with prices of other brand vehicles, not poor sandwiches! Who taught you logic?
I could compare it to any thing you want it’s called inflation it’s across the board. But have fun with your logic thing

Let's take inflation out of the picture by simply comparing Teslas to Teslas.

In June 2019, Elon stated that "you’ve got to be able to get a really great truck for $49,000, or less.” For comparison, the 2019 cost for a brand new, well-equipped Model 3 (long-range, all-wheel drive, without incentives or gas savings) was $49,120.

Soon afterwards, in March 2020, Tesla introduced the Model Y. The 2020 cost started at $51,190 for the Model Y long range, which was the least expensive available version at that time.

So in 2019, an entry-level Cybertruck was supposed to be about as affordable as a good Model 3 or Model Y.

Did Tesla achieve that goal? The 2024 Cybertruck currently has the same starting price as a Model X, and is more than a Model S.

I just got my invite to Place the regular order, almost 5 years later, so I wouldn't count the foundation version. That just Telsa taking Profit sharing at our expense. Its still sad they are so far off the mark on pricing. More of Elon over promises I guess. Its not like they are out of line on Prices today, Most good trimmed trucks start at the $72000 range and go up from there. My 2016 Ram Laramie 1500 cost $53000 new and today it would be $82000 and they dont even have the diesel version now. So it sucks at this point but....

The conversion rate appears to be pretty low right now.

I think it’s a combination of the still premium $80k MSRP, buyers waiting for a 2025 model and a wait and see attitude regarding a future $7500 federal tax credit.

Tesla might be facing a demand problem for the Cybertruck in the next 6-12 months. I predict that the $61k RWD Cybertruck may be coming sooner than we think.

Make it $69k AWD, then knock off another $10k for Musk being an asshole reverse fee and we'll talk.
