Rack mounts are abysmal. Are there any billet pieces that attach to create a flat surface with female thread?

and check out @ButterEV ‘s great video on rooftop tent, which obviously would need a solid flat mount -

What does this mean? What third party solution solves it? I have been through all of them. I’m happy to be enlightened, but not lectured. it’s a design flaw. It happens. I have proposed a solution. If I had a CNC machine I would knock one out. I’m asking that someone make one who does. I love the truck. Like I was going to reject it due to this simple error. Please. But it is an error.
Cybertruckco has many racks that would fit your need. They have one that goes over the cab and one that goes over the bed that are level with the ground. I have the one over the bed and it only took a couple hours to install.

I understand the rack interface is not great as far as strength. Who dreamed that up? But there are not many things I want to mount so they are falling off the truck. On a truck with outstanding acceleration? Ahhh no. At a minimum there should be an allowance for a flat crossbar surface without buying a giant cage thing that literally takes hours to assemble and disassemble. I just want crossbars I can swap off and on with a flat surface. At a minimum there should be a stainless sail and tailgate cover that can handle the abuse. I love the truck, but the utility is currently lacking. I’ve been trying to figure out crossbars with 8020 and L track for days. It just doesn’t work. L track isn’t made to do that.
@TickTock designed one that has a (I think) 14-2 female thread. You could then machine extruded aluminum bars to mount to them. Heee is the link he provided, and his post was 12/3/2024:

Drama much? You could have just started the thread by asking a thought out question instead of having a tantrum like a 10 year old. People are here to enlighten you, but not when they are being lectured to. Apply your advice to yourself man.

Looks like other have given out solutions you haven't tried yet. Good luck.

I installed the Tesla OEM 2 bar roof rack on my All Wheel-Drive Foundation Series Cybertruck. Since it was first the time to install, I kept going back to the manual to make sure that I was doing it correctly. I used my own torque wrench to tighten the bolts at first. However, I was surprised that the wrench included was a torque wrench. I had never seen a torque wrench like this. I had to use 2 hands to get the torque wrench to “snap” when it reached the 7.6Nm. I found the torque wrench ingenious. When I installed the towers I was impressed by how easy they were to install and how sturdy the towers were after I locked the towers.

I have no complaints. I find that people expect the product to adapt to their needs. I feel the opposite. I feel that I need to adapt to my Cybertruck.

I agree in actual use the racks following the rake angle of the bed sides is *silly*, slap up a 2x4 and it sides off before you can get the next on up there...

It is the same with the cargo divider: I don't really use it, it is completely in the way when you don't need it, cumbersome to install and you need a perfect height and square of the cargo bed deck and rails for it to work.

The consolation is this is first gen vehicle and accessories. Pickup trucks have had decades to improve design and use...

After wasting a couple of minutes reading the OP's rant and their rude responses to helpful replies I decided I had to act, so I consumed a few more seconds to find and click the proper "ignore" button.

For the record, I love the truck. I love Tesla. I’m long on Tesla. Tesla has been very good to me. I understand why everyone is quick to react. I’ve been in this from the beginning. I remember when the community on Electrek was a great place to learn and inquire. And I saw what it devolved into. I get it. I’m not a hater or a troll. I should have used softer language. My bad. I was just really tired and frustrated with trying adapt a simple solution to what is unnecessarily a complex problem. The good old internet. Peace to all. I’m glad I received a useful answer. I will try to get a 3-d printed piece that ameliorates the problem. Geeze.

I agree with you. The M8 studs don’t inspire a lot of confidence. Why weren’t the mounting points beefy?

Really this would be solved if you could get the truck to move into squat and pounce stances from the console or app. They showed the prototype doing this, they do it in launch modes, so it's just a matter of allowing you to do it when loading.

...Also, you could put a bit of tacky silicone strip across the bars to keep stuff from sliding.

I agree with you. The M8 studs don’t inspire a lot of confidence. Why weren’t the mounting points beefy?
Bolts aren't the only thing holding stuff from sheering, the friction of the pads are. Secondly, there's what, four per bar? How much force are you expecting the bolts to have to resist pulling up and not break?

A single M8 bolt is said to be able to take two elephants worth of sheer force (if I'm reading Stack Exchange right) which makes sense, as you need to be able to resist a multiple of the load as it bounces. And the racks are held on by four.

If an elephant is grabbing onto the bars, I think you have bigger problems.

What do you have to mount that this won’t work for and where is the data to support your design flaw assertion? This was less than a one minute internet search by the way. ?

Has this issue been resolved? Dalton108, is the solution you linked what everyone’s been looking for? Just trying to make sense of it all.
This is a fine solution if you never have to remove the rack. The OP was, perhaps, a bit dramatic but I feel the same frustration they expressed about the attachment mechanism of the truck. I have the cybertruckco rack @dalton108 suggested and it is a lot of effort to remove. You pretty much have to take it completely apart before you can disconnect from the truck. Also, unless they fixed the design since I got mine, the front crossbar follows the slope of the truck - not the rest of the rack so there is a bump there preventing stock from laying flat. They just reused the same crossbar in the front that they sell for their non-level rack system.

If I were still building a house, this is what I would want. A very well thought out design, the rear crossbar is even removable to better facilitate loading the bed. Pictures are from another thread, link below.
