Ya. I covered the bumper with the same stainless steel plates. The top of my tailgate and side of the tonneau covers are all scratched up so I covered those with a sticker product that I like the rough textured look of.

Of all of the weird takes about how the plastic is supposed to be damaged super easily, this was not how I thought anyone would spin it, LOL
It's weird you think it's weird. That's why bumpers have been plastic since the 70s. They didn't add plastic because they wanted to.

Most cars with plastic bumpers are painted. This increases the surface durability of those bumpers immensely.

The plastic on the CT takes damage and retains to a greater degree. Heating it up and rubbing it can help a little, but will likely result in discoloration in the long run, because it extracts the oils.

No, it's weird that my jeep, which cost $60,000 less, has black plastic all over it that isn't as crappy as the plastic on the truck

Does it seem like if you loaded wood or what not over the tail gate it would damage that tape stuff or does it seem pretty think ? I like it but wouldn’t want to now have a scratch in that and it looks worse ?

That might be true for cars but show me how many trucks have complete plastic bumpers if any ?

The point of the plastic is to wear without damaging other things that bumps into it.

No different than how tires wear over time.

i would think a rubbery compound rigid enough to hold it’s shape/form but that could deform a significant amount and then spring back into shape would be a better choice if thst was the main reason though. Smells like they opted not to spend as much and go with a cheaper material to me but of course it seems like the majority of auto manufacturers conclude the same and it is basically an industry standard now. But what do I know? Lol. I don’t make cars. I guess I should stay in my lane (pun sort of intended).

Cheers

Yeah my 2012 Suburban fenders look better. Yes painted. Get beat to hell, yet I can get all those scratches out. On the Cybertruck they are not able to.

Defend all you want. A decade long off roader that can kick ass and take names. vs something that just came out of the box less than a year ago.

Many wonder. Some defend. Bottom line is it could have been done better. Replacing things that are vulnerable to damage at a cheap price?????? So my trim pieces that are just fine are just fine on my suburban. Why not build it right and not make it need to be replaced just like on my Suburban, but for a Cybertruck. That would equal no price. Wake up people stop defending it like it is gold. Some use google as a resource vs. experience. Then claim like they have expeeinced bumpers from the 1970's. Maybe in diapers.

How dumb it is that I have to say the above ^

Most of the defenders never touch the soil or brush, or even have a Tesla or a Cybertruck. So funny.

Nearly all non-commercial trucks have had plastic bumpers for decades.

Yes, painted. They change color when scratched.

i would think a rubbery compound ...
It's called plastic. Other kinds of plastic are less durable over time. And it's not an exact science, you can't quite know how durable your formulation is, how much UV absorption will happen, etc. But they're cheap to replace.

I don't know what got bees in your butts, but I'm just explaining why they exist. That was the question, wasn't it, 'who approved plastic trim'?
